Northern county makes 'world's best places to visit in 2024' list for great beaches, lavender fields and dark skies | The Sun

A COUNTY in the UK has been named one of the best destinations to visit in the world in 2024.

While it may only be November, tourists and travel experts are already thinking ahead to next year's summer holidays.

Those Brits looking for their next staycation spot will be pleased to know that Yorkshire has been crowned one of the best places to visit in 2024.

A network of well-travelled writers and editors from Conde Nast Traveller chose the destinations based on their new and existing offerings.

The team of travel experts spent months researching and vetting the cities, regions, and countries on their shortlist.

Included in the top 24 are places like Budapest in Hungary, the Cyclades in Greece, and Kosovo.

Yorkshire made the shortlist thanks to its sweeping landscapes, forested moors, picture-perfect lavender fields, and beautiful woodlands.

Other attractions like stargazing at the Dark Skies Festival in The North York Moors, and next year's Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta, were also mentioned.

The judges also noted the county's Michelin-starred restaurants, including The Black Swan in Oldstead and The Abbey Inn.

Yorkshire is also home to plenty of great beaches, including Hunmanby Gap, Saltburn, Runswick Bay, and Whitby.

One spot in Greece also made the list, the Cyclades – a Greek island group formed of places like Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Milos, and Ios.

Santorini and Mykonos dominated social media feeds this summer, and it appears they're still going to be popular in 2024.

In 2023, airlines like Etihad, British Airways, and Saudia launched new flights to the Greek islands.

There will also be plenty of plush new hotels opening on the islands next year, including Santo Mine, a 37-suite luxury resort, opening in Oia in Santorini.

Meanwhile, Budapest in Hungary topped the list of Conde Nast Traveller's destinations to visit in 2024.

The European capital was praised for its architecture, thermal baths, vibrant nightlife, and cultural events.

Other destinations in the top 24 included bucket-list destinations like Mauritius, Kobe in Japan, and Santa Fe in America.

In recent weeks, other travel experts have also been announcing their top holiday hotspots for 2024.

Skyscanner recently named Rimini as one of the top trending destinations for next year.

According to the travel booking site, Rimini has seen a 362 per cent increase in online searches from last year, showing the growing interest in the city.
