Jamie Lynn Spears joins Dancing With The Stars and decides to donate salary

Jamie-Lynn Spears confirmed for Dancing with the Stars

Jamie Lynn Spears, 32, has shared her excitement after it was confirmed by ABC that she would be taking part in season 32 of Dancing With The Stars.

She will be paired with Alan Bersten for the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, making them the first couple officially revealed for this season.

The sister of Britney Spears was asked in an interview with Good Morning America if she was ready for such a big opportunity.

She replied: “I don’t know if one can ever be 100% ready to take on something this big; I didn’t realize what a commitment it is, but it definitely is. I’m ready to challenge myself.”

Jamie Lynn then went on to share that she will not be keeping the weekly salary she gets from the show, but will instead give it to SAG-AFTRA and the WGA amid their ongoing strike.

She explained: “While everybody else in my community is on strike, I have this unique opportunity where I was offered a chance to work when my community cannot work.

“So I figured I’ll do this and I will donate my weekly salary… to just give back to them at a time where they can’t give back to themselves.”

As for how her family reacted to the news, Jamie Lynn did not delve into her sister Britney but shared her kids’ excitement.

Jamie Lynn is mom to five-year-old Ivey Joan and 15-year-old Maddie, telling GMA: “My 15-year-old actually was very motivated for me to do this, which was actually very surprising.

“My 15-year-old was like, ‘You’re going to dance on TV? What are you doing Mom?’

“But she was like, ‘Mom, you have to do it.’ She’s an athlete so I think she wants to see me kind of push myself.

“Typically I’d be working on different ventures but I think it’s just important that I have this opportunity.

“And if I get up there and even if I embarrass myself, I’m doing it for a good reason and hopefully giving back to the community that’s literally given back to me since I was a little girl.”

Jamie Lynn has had a very up-and-down relationship with her sister Britney over the years due to the singer’s conservatorship.

In 2008 Britney was involuntarily placed in a conservatorship with her father Jamie Spears, with it lasting until November 2021.

Jamie Lynn then released a memoir, Call Her Daddy in 2022, with Britney sharing her fury over the “betrayal”.

The pair seemed to have fixed their relationship in recent months, with Jamie Lynn telling Variety in July: “I have nothing but absolute love for every single one of my family members. If I learned anything from last year, being so open and feeling like I had to defend myself at times, I don’t feel like there’s anything else that I need to say.

“I just have to leave it where it is because those conversations are meant to be personal.”
