Thorpe Park reveals first look at brand new rollercoaster – and it will be the tallest and fastest in the UK | The Sun

THORPE PARK has given thrill seekers a first look at a brand new rollercoaster that’s set to be the tallest and fastest in the UK when it opens next year.

The Surrey-based theme park's latest addition, code-named Project Exodus, will be ready sometime in 2024 – although it’s not been confirmed when exactly this will be.

However, Thorpe Park has released a point-of-view video featuring a detailed look at the white-knuckle ride’s layout and its elements for the very first time.

At 236ft tall, the hypercoaster, built by Mack Rides, will swipe the crown of the UK’s tallest rollercoaster from Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s The Big One, which stands just one foot shorter at 235ft tall.

It’s also set to smash speed records when it opens to the public, reaching a velocity of 81mph.

That’s just 1mph faster than the park’s Stealth ride, which currently holds the title of the fastest rollercoaster in the UK.

The coaster is set to boast three inversions including a dive loop, an Immelmann (where the coaster climbs a hill, performs a half-loop, and then twists 180 degrees to level out in the opposite direction) and a unique one-of-a-kind inversion that sends riders upside down as they come out of an outerbank turn.

This inversion is said to be special in that it’s never been done on a rollercoaster before and is so new that it doesn’t even have an official name yet.

It will involve the rollercoaster following a curved track element where the track tilts outward, away from the centre of the curve and before being taken directly into an inversion.

The arrival of Project Exodus will be the first major rollercoaster to open at Thorpe Park since the Swarm in 2012.

According to The Coaster Kings, construction of the new rollercoaster has begun, and the foundations are already in position.

Gold-coloured support columns for the ride have also recently been delivered to the construction site, the theme park enthusiast website claims.

When plans were first unveiled to the public in 2021, the resort said the new ride was a reaction to the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on the park’s admission numbers.

"Thorpe Park Resort aims to continue to invest in the Park’s attractions to encourage more people to return to the Resort now that the tourism industry has re-opened,” it said.

"This key investment and the introduction of new attractions is critical to the Resort’s recovery from the Covid-related impacts on the business.

"With this in mind, we are delighted to announce that we are proposing to add an exciting new rollercoaster to Thorpe Park Resort’s portfolio of world-class attractions.

The park said that Project Exodus will offer visitors “an exhilarating experience” where they’ll be transported from the station structure around a new track over water.

A maintenance building is also proposed to the west of the station building and there will be associated facilities provided such as a food and beverage outlet and photo shop.

And here's everything to know about another secret ride, this time opening at Alton Towers.
