A TRAVEL expert visited the richest country in the world which is so expensive you can’t get a McDonald’s for less than £10.

Eli Snyder, known as ‘Snydtheexplorer’ on TikTok, said there was a great free perk in the European country.

The social media user, who has gained 46,700 followers on the site, took a trip to Luxembourg, a country he said he loved.

Snyder said: “This is the richest country in the world and I’m going to show you what $10 gets you. Welcome to Luxembourg.”

He added: “After my visa application to Belarus was denied, I booked a last-minute flight to Brussels.

“I took a two-and-a-half-hour train and ended up making it to the kingdom of Luxembourg – the richest country by GDP per capita.”

Trying to find if there was anything cheap in the country he headed to a McDonald’s where a Big Mac cost the equivalent of £11.

Snyder said that was even more than the price in Denmark or Switzerland.

He said: “Yeah, Luxembourg’s expensive.”

Snyder did reveal a great benefit though which everyone can enjoy for free.

He revealed: “A single ride on transportation, scratch that, all public transportation in Luxembourg is actually free, as of 2020.

“The scheme was introduced to curb the country’s car problem and has been free ever since.”

The pinned post has been a huge hit and has been viewed 5.7million times, picking up more than 490,000 likes and over 2,700 comments.

Many commentators went online to say that actually the prices were very similar to where they lived.

One said: “I don’t understand, I get a croissant and a coffee for $10 in the coffee shop of my college in the USA???”

Another wrote: “New York, I pay $7 coffee before tip.”

While a third added: “That’s what it costs at a Starbucks here dude.”

Others though shared their love of the country.

A commentator chipped in with: “Luxembourg can be expensive (also depends on where you go) but happy that you enjoyed your visit.”

Someone else commented: “Awesome! I spent two weeks in Luxembourg for school in 2012. Brought back many memories. Thanks for sharing and glad you had fun."
