Britain’s TATE institution is spread across four museums housing the best of UK art. Modern and contemporary artwork is upheld through unique and interactive installations inside the TATE Modern, TATE Britain, TATE Liverpool, and TATE St Ives.
TATE is expanding into the footwear space, reining with Dr. Martens for a sophomore collection. The duo celebrates British surrealist artist Ithell Colquhoun, who impacted the international art movement in the late 1930s and beyond.
Colquhoun paintings explore nature through an intimate lens focusing on sex and gender expression. She is honored across Dr. Martens’ 1460 boot enchanted by her Volcanic Flare and Example of Decalcomania Technique works. Vibrant green, red, and yellow tones make up the latter, featuring explosive graphics throughout. The second is dressed in black and white hues, reflecting her watercolor processes.
Both pieces are combined into a single accessory: a leather backpack with black accents and metallic branding. The collaborative footwear is stacked atop Dr. Martens’ rubber soles, featuring classic yellow stitching and AirWair pull tabs.
Take a closer look at the TATE x Dr. Martens collaboration in the gallery above. It is available to shop now via the Dr. Martens website and at select retailers.
Elsewhere, MCM and PUMA Hoops return with third and final collaboration.
