Spike Lee has long had a connection with basketball and even the Jordan Brand. Back in the day, Jordan ads like “Spike and Mike” saw him put the stamp on the Air Jordan 3 in the early days. His relationship with Jordan gave birth to the unique Jordan Spiz’ike in 2006. one of the most notable models include the Spike Lee Air Jordan 3 “Oscar” where he debuted at the 2019 Academy Awards.
The special edition high top saw the shoe dressed in metallic gold premium leather, highlighting the Swoosh, elephant print and the tongue. Additional accents in black, white and icy blue as well as a red liner made for striking contrasts. The shoe also featured logos from Spike’s film production company, 40 Acres and A Mule Filmworks, as well as an oversized Jumpman logo. The shoe’s were made exclusively for Spike and never hit retail shelves.
Now, Sotheby’s is auctioning off the shoe with 100% of the proceeds going to Portland Rescue Mission, which aids people experiencinghomelessness and those battling addiction since 1949, received an unexpected donation. Originally, a participant in the program found a pair of pristine AJ3s and Tinker Hatfield authenticated them.
The auction for the Spike Lee x Air Jordan 3 “Gold Oscars” PE runs until December 18, 2023 and is estimated to be valued between $15,000 USD to $20,000 USD. Enter the auction here.
