The John Wick franchise will be getting an anime spinoff sometime down the line. John Wick launched in 2014 with the inaugural action flick, created by Derek Kolstad and starring Keanu Reeves.
Speaking on a new episode of the podcast The Discourse, which is published by The Playlist, director Chad Stahelski said that “a Japanese anime” was in the works for the John Wick series.
John Wick already has four full-length feature films, along with the miniseries The Continental: From the World of John Wick and another movie, Ballerina, being made for 2024.
Stahelski directed all four of those movies, though not the series, and is serving as a producer on Ballerina.
“So we’re really looking forward to that [the series]; we’re really excited about it because we’re doing that and a Japanese anime because I love Japanese anime so much,” Stahelski said per The Playlist.
“So to create all the cool stories that anime could achieve better than we could and the TV show to expand our world, we’ll still get our fix, you know what I mean? And we’ll still have all the fun.”
A title or official release date for the anime series has yet to be announced.
In other entertainment news, an Elon Musk biopic is in development from A24 and Darren Aronofsky.
