Strictly Come Dancing star undergoes ‘painful’ procedure just hours before show

Strictly: Eddie and Karen score first 10

Strictly star Karen Hauer has left fans worried after she shared that she underwent cupping therapy shortly before she is due to appear on the popular BBC One show.

The professional dancer, who is paired with Eddie Kadi, revealed that she endured a hard session of the treatment just hours before the fourth week of live performances.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Baby got back. @dareyl #cuppingtherapy #acupuncture.”

In the snap, Karen is lying face down with numerous cups placed all over her back and parts of her skin looking red raw.

The therapy involves sucking parts of the skin with plastic or glass cups to help improve blood flow, remove toxins and boost immune function.

However, the procedure has already panicked a number of Strictly fans.

Those who were concerned about Karen’s wellbeing took to the comments section, one of which said: “oh no.. hope it helps, good luck for Saturday xx.”

A second chimed in: “This looks painful xx.”

A third typed: “Wow that dancing really takes its toll on your body,” whilst a fourth commented: “God that looks like torture. Hope u alright after it.”

Cupping does leave temporary marks on the skin and it is often used by professional athletes to improve muscular regeneration.

Karen and her partner Eddie Kadi dazzled the judges during last weekend as they performed a routine to Will Smith’s Men In Black.

Head judge Shirley Ballas awarded a score of 10 to the pair, despite it only being Week Three of the dance competition.

They went on to achieve an impressive 34 points, sending them to second place on the leaderboard.

During the feedback, Shirley said: “Eddie when you do something well it needs rewarding. This was slick; it had style; it was edgy; it was entertaining; and you found your groove. I absolutely loved it.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
