Helen Skelton ‘shocked’ by reaction to her stepping down from BBC show
Helen Skelton has admitted that she was “shocked” at the public’s reaction to her stepping away from her role on BBC Radio 5 Live.
The former Blue Peter host spoke to Sophie Ellis-Bextor on her podcast, Spinning Plates, about what her life has been like since shifting away from the BBC radio show.
Helen announced earlier this year that she would be stepping down from her role in order to spend more time with her children.
She said: “I was so shocked at the amount of noise around that.
“It became this big thing, everyone started this narrative and a big discussion around it, which is great.

“I think when you’re public facing, it’s easy for everyone to have an opinion.”
During her final show in August, Helen signed off with: “That’s it for me on Sundays for now. Thank you for your company over the last year, I’ve loved every minute of our time together on this show…

The mum-of-three gave birth to her third child in December 2021 before it was shortly announced that her eight-year marriage had come to an end.
Helen was previously married to rugby player Richie Myler, who has since embarked on a new romance with Stephanie Thirkhill.
Richie recently became a father again just 14 months after splitting with Helen as the couple welcomed their first child together in April.
Despite the breakdown of her marriage, Helen signed up to Strictly Come Dancing and made it all the way to the final last year with Gorka Marquez.
