But some people still wonder if the electric device can be carried in your hand luggage when boarding a flight.

Can you take an electric toothbrush in your hand luggage?

Rules are in place about what you can bring with you in your hand luggage when boarding a plane.

These restrictions apply to various items including e-cigs and cigarettes and food.

However, the rules on electric toothbrushes aren't clear, and restrictions can differ between carriers.

So if you're wondering whether you'll be allowed to bring your toothbrush in your hand luggage, your best bet is to contact your airline directly and ask.

Can you take toothpaste in hand luggage?

There are also limits on the amount of liquid you're able to have in your hand luggage.

It's therefore advised that you pack liquids in your hold baggage if possible.

According to the UK Government website the rules on the liquid cover:

  • Drinks, including water
  • Liquid or semi-liquid foods like soup and syrups
  • Sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray and spray deodorants
  • Gels, including hair and shower gel
  • Contact lens solution
  • Any other solutions and items of similar consistency
  • toiletries and cosmetics, including creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara and lip gloss

However, you can take liquids on-board with you in the plastic bag provided, subject to the following requirements:

  • You’re limited to one plastic bag per person
  • You must show the bag at the airport security point
  • Containers must hold no more than 100ml
  • They must be in a single, transparent, resealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
  • The contents have to fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
  • The bag mustn't be tied at the top or knotted

If you're in any doubt, check what you can take with your airline beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Can you take mouthwash in hand luggage?

Mouthwash should be covered by the same rules on liquid laid out above.

As long as you don't have more than 100ml of liquid with you and you're adhering to the rest of the rules, you will be able to take it on in a clear plastic bag.

Be advised that airport security staff won't let anything through that they consider to be dangerous.

This applies to items that are normally allowed in hand luggage.
