Aldi is selling pigs in blankets in a pie – and Brits want it for Xmas dinner

Aldi is selling pigs in blankets stuffed into a pie.

Yes, no longer do you have to wait until Christmas Day to enjoy the delicacy, as you can now snap them up encased in flaky pastry. And they do sound a little tempting, don't they?

The supermarket's Festive Pies have been released to mark the festive season, and shoppers are super excited about them. Since pictures of the savoury treats were shared on Instagram, food lovers are more than keen to tuck in.

Alongside a picture of the pies, Aldi wrote: "NEW IN FOR CHRISTMAS. It's no secret that we LOVE pigs in blankets… so much so that we put them in a pie. Grab our Festive Pies in store now!"

According to the product description, the pie is filled with chicken pieces as well as a hearty pig in blanket and all the trimmings of a Christmas dinner. It's all encased in shortcrust pastry and topped with a puff pastry lid.

It sounds good enough to eat if you ask us.

Since the pie was shared on social media, more than 2,000 people have liked it, and shoppers have said they're keen to try the pies as soon as possible. Some even think it looks so good that they're willing to have it instead of a Christmas dinner.

That's high praise from foodies indeed.

One person said: "Absolute genius idea." Another wrote: "Let’s just have these for Xmas day!!"

A third replied: "These are amazing." Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Gorgeous! Need these all year!!"

Several also commented to say they'd tried them already, and many praised the pies. They were dubbed "very nice" by some of the customers who'd already sampled the goods.

Back last month Aldi also hit the headlines when it created the world’s longest pig in blanket. The supersized sausage was unveiled at the supermarket’s bottomless Pigs in Blankets Restaurant, which officially opened in North London’s Camden Passage last month.

Made using 150 rashers of bacon, the giant blanketed sausage can feed up to 133 people. And at the equivalent of 12 packs of the porky delights, the bespoke sausage weighs an impressive 3.2kg with a circumference of 42cm when coiled. That’s a lot of festive feasting!
