Gustavo Barroso's 'Infinite Growth' Offers Playful Takes on Glass Works

Rising interdisciplinary artist and designer Gustavo Barroso is set to challenge perceptions of glass art with his exhibition titled “Infinite Growth” at The Set as part of the incoming Miami Art Week 2023 festivities. Barroso’s innovative use of pâte de verre techniques spotlights a unique exploration of glass repurposing. Through inventive material composites, Barroso pushes the boundaries of traditional glass work, displaying versatility and a deep understanding of materiality. Found objects are transformed into new forms, emphasizing the regenerative potential of unconventional materials.

Adding an interactive dimension to the exhibit, Barroso collaborates with Zach Umperovitch, a leading expert in chain-reaction machines. Attendees will engage with an installation featuring sculptures and chairs crafted from Jägermeister’s green glass bottles, infusing the space with captivating shades of green.

“Infinite Growth” prompts a collective contemplation of human desire, nature, and change. Barroso challenges established material perceptions, encouraging visitors to break free from traditional mediums. The exhibition promises an environment that sparks curiosity and introspection, inviting viewers to witness the endless possibilities of artistic expression.

‘Infinite Growth’ will be open to the public starting December 8 until December 9. If you’re heading to Miami, you may also want to check out Charlie Roberts’ new provocative series of paintings presented by Woaw Gallery as part of the Untitled Art Fair.
