All the Times Linda Evangelista Shared Candid Confessions About Aging & Beauty Standards

For almost five years, the iconic ’90s supermodel Linda Evangelista stepped away from the spotlight without a trace. And, in 2022, the model and mother of one made her comeback when she revealed that a CoolSculpting procedure left her “brutally disfigured,” per People.

“Those CoolSculpting commercials were on all the time, on CNN, on MSNBC, over and over, and they would ask, ‘Do you like what you see in the mirror?’ They were speaking to me,” she told British Vogue shortly after. “It was about stubborn fat in areas that wouldn’t budge. It said no downtime, no surgery and… I drank the magic potion, and I would because I’m a little vain. So I went for it – and it backfired.”

Since revealing her truth, however, Evangelista has been praised for how open and candid she’s been about her struggles, including her two-time diagnosis with breast cancer. So, in honor of her truth-telling attitude recently, check out all the times she’s been open about body standards and aging below!

In Vogue, Evangelista talked about not minding growing older, and showing it on her face. “I don’t mind and I never did mind aging. Aging gets us to where we want to be, and that’s for me a long life,” she said. “Kevyn Aucoin was so afraid of wrinkles and he never got them. I want wrinkles—but I Botox my forehead so I am a hypocrite—but I want to grow old. I want to watch my son grow into a fine young man. I just want to stick around.”

  • Loving Herself

In a cover story for British Vogue, Evangelista bravely shared that her face, jaw and neck were pushed back and tightened by using “tape and elastics.” “That’s not my jaw and neck in real life – and I can’t walk around with tape and elastics everywhere,” she added.

“You know what, I’m trying to love myself as I am, but for the photos…” she explained. “Look, for photos I always think we’re here to create fantasies. We’re creating dreams. I think it’s allowed. Also, all my insecurities are taken care of in these pictures, so I got to do what I love to do.”

  • All for Augie

Also on British Vogue, Evangelista shared the biggest reason she’s no longer worried about being, or looking, older. “Bring it on,” she said. “I just want to be here to see it all. I’m not done, I want to see Augie turn into a man.”

  • Celebration Mode

Talking to Wall Street Journal, Evangelista opened up about her experiences battling breast cancer, and how they changed her outlook on beauty, aging and, most of all, life. “I know I have one foot in the grave, but I’m totally in celebration mode,” she said.
