Ricky Gervais has come under fire for joking about terminally ill children and using the R-word slur in his latest stand-up special for Netflix.<\/p>\n
The 62-year-old actor and comedian shared a new clip from his upcoming show, Armageddon, on social media which was quickly hit with furious backlash, including a complaint from former footballer Ashley Cain.<\/p>\n
In the video, Gervais tells the audience he\u2019s recently been filming messages for ill children with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been doing a lot of video messages recently for terminally ill children,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnly if they request it, obviously. I don\u2019t burst into hospitals and go, \u2018Wake up, baldy. Look at me twerking on TikTok.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Look at me twerking on TikTok.’\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Gervais\u2019 next comment enraged social media users when he said he \u201calways [starts] the video the same way.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhy didn\u2019t you wish to get better?\u201d he joked in the clip, to a mixed reaction from the crowd. \u201cWhat, you f**king r****ded as well?\u201d<\/p>\n In the special, the Office star insisted \u201cthese are all jokes\u201d and he doesn\u2019t use the R-word in real life.<\/p>\n However, a number of parents of terminally ill children have taken offence to the routine, taking to the comments to criticise the controversial comedian.<\/p>\n Don’t miss… <\/strong> <\/p>\n \u201cI was actually a fan of Ricky Gervais but after watching his stand up with my family and hearing multiple jokes about terminally ill children and especially kids with cancer I had to turn it off,\u201d former footballer Cain wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cSome things are not funny, especially to the parents that are left behind. You can get cancelled in this world for so much, yet making a mockery of dying children is ok? I\u2019m so mad at this!\u201d<\/p>\n Cain tragically lost his 8-month-old daughter to leukemia in 2021.<\/p>\n
