{"id":84435,"date":"2023-10-29T17:31:09","date_gmt":"2023-10-29T17:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mylifestylemax.com\/?p=84435"},"modified":"2023-10-29T17:31:09","modified_gmt":"2023-10-29T17:31:09","slug":"annual-goth-celebration-in-yorkshire-gets-off-to-a-soggy-start","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mylifestylemax.com\/lifestyle\/annual-goth-celebration-in-yorkshire-gets-off-to-a-soggy-start\/","title":{"rendered":"Annual goth celebration in Yorkshire gets off to a soggy start"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Revellers at Whitby Goth Festival get soaked after torrential rain hits Yorkshire town<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Whitby Goth Festival is off to a terrific start today despite heavy downpour<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00a0READ MORE: How a sleepy town turns into an alternative festival for three days<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Halloween spirit couldn&#8217;t be dampened in spite of heavy rain falling on Whitby this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of people were seen braving the rain on Sunday to attend the Yorkshire town&#8217;s Whitby Goth Festival, as its latest three-day goth celebration kicked off.<\/p>\n<p>The darkly flamboyant event takes place twice a year and sees revellers bring out their best period dress and make-up for the special event in honour of Bram Stoker&#8217;s hauntingly frightening &#8216;Dracula&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Stoker visited the seaside town in 1890 and was inspired by the ruins of Whitby Abbey and the views from the coastline and St Mary&#8217;s church and graveyard to pen one of the world&#8217;s most famous horror novels.<\/p>\n<p>Today, visitors from around the world descended upon the town in a dazzling array of ghoulish costumes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/15\/77142551-12685505-Hundreds_of_people_were_seen_braving_the_rain_today_to_attend_th-m-1_1698592422927.jpg\" height=\"767\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of people were seen braving the rain today to attend the the Whitby Goth Festival, a three-day goth celebration in the Yorkshire coastal town<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/15\/77142617-12685505-Fancily_dressed_goths_took_to_the_streets_of_Yorkshire_despite_h-m-2_1698592448260.jpg\" height=\"1117\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Goths armed with brollies took to the streets of Whitby despite heavy rain throwing a dampner on proceedings\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/29\/15\/77142615-12685505-The_event_is_billed_as_family_and_pet_friendly_with_dogs_normall-m-3_1698592488472.jpg\" height=\"729\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>This bully donned his finest hat as he strode through the streets of the historic town\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In one image, a woman is adorned in a black and red corset with a matching sheer skirt and blazer to match.<\/p>\n<p>She teamed the unique costume with a long red wig, a red lace-trimmed umbrella and a matching black bag.<\/p>\n<p>Although clearly stylish, it was the old ball and chain that stole the spotlight &#8211; quite literally.<\/p>\n<p>The woman was accompanied to the festival with another party-goer, who came complete with a petrifying mask, long leather jacket and dark sunglasses.<\/p>\n<p>There was no escape for the guest who was seen attached to the woman via a silver chain, which was placed around his neck.<\/p>\n<p>Others &#8211;
