A New York City woman has opened up about an “uncomfortable first date” after she was told she wasn’t pretty enough to have her meal paid for.

Winta Zesu, 21, shared a video with her followers detailing the date with a man who told her she should offer to pay.

But the man said he had “a reputation to maintain” so told her to discreetly slide her card under the table to make it look like he had paid for the meal.

The uncomfortable encounter appears fake but commenters confirmed it reflects the dating scene in New York City, where Zesu lives and works.

After watching the video, many men felt the need to criticize the video and defend the man, saying it unfairly represented the dating culture.

But women in the comment section were quick to shut them down revealing their own similar experiences.

In the video, Zesu can be seen trying to enjoy her food while a man in the background, believed to be her date, can be heard telling her she’s “eating too quickly”.

He says: “The food’s not going anywhere, are you enjoying this date or not, I feel like you’re just eating and then gonna leave.”

The anonymous speaker can also be heard asking her if she even likes Italian food before telling her she should pay for the meal herself.

She told him that she hadn’t brought her card, which he says is “un-ladylike” and bad manners.

Zesu questioned the man’s intentions, as he had taken her out without any apparent interest in dining but his response was that he wanted to engage in conversation and get to know her, rather than having a meal at the restaurant.

He continued to bombard her with inquiries also making a comment about her designer purse, hinting that he thought she was treating him to the meal.

In the end, the video finishes with her asking him to stop. She told him: “I am trying to eat and leave.”
