The UK weather is dropping rapidly now. <\/p>\n
Mornings are getting colder and the wind in the air is definitely a lot cooler. Now as temperatures start to go down, motoring experts warned Brits to double check their cars. <\/p>\n
The vehicle service and repair company Collect Service Go issued a message to drivers as vehicle batteries can die quicker during the cold weather. <\/p>\n

Replacement car batteries can cost up to \u00a3400 as the company shared some easy tips which drivers can do to make sure their vehicles are running fine.<\/p>\n

Ollie Green, from Collect Service Go, explained drivers should always get their battery checked by a professional before the winter to make sure it is unlikely to give them any issues.<\/p>\n
He said: "During the winter months we generally use more electric power, the heaters, headlights, water and windscreen wiper, which all add more strain on the battery.<\/p>\n
"Before winter sets in, it is always a good idea to get your battery checked. If there are signs of a failing battery, replace it immediately to help prevent failing your MOT or breakdowns."<\/p>\n
Collect Service Go also said driving in certain ways can cause the battery to wear down at a faster rate, which could eventually lead to trouble starting.<\/p>\n
Now the company advised motorists to avoid making shorter journeys in which the vehicle's alternator doesn't have enough time to recharge the battery.<\/p>\n

If short trips are avoidable, it's recommended motorists take an extra journey of at least half an hour on a motorway or fast-moving A-road to make sure the battery is topped up.<\/p>\n
Ollie added that drivers should also try to keep their vehicle's battery warm during the winter, by using a cover or heater. He continued: "Invest in a battery blanket or heater designed specifically for car batteries.<\/p>\n
"These provide a gentle, consistent source of heat to keep the battery warm. Be sure to place the blanket on the battery as soon as you turn off your engine as this will help retain the heat given off by your engine.<\/p>\n
"Another important thing to remember is to be sure to remove the blanket before the next time you start your engine."<\/p>\n
It's worth remembering that running the fans for warm air can also drain the battery, meaning drivers should try to quick heat up the car at the start of the journey then switch it off.<\/p>\n
