With searches for \u201chow to prevent bathroom mould\u201d surging last week as colder weather arrived in the UK,\u00a0Rikki Fothergill at\u00a0Big Bathroom Shop\u00a0has shared the trending houseplants that are perfect additions that offer practical benefits as well as \u201clooking pretty\u201d.<\/p>\n
Using Pinterest trends, the team delved into the most-searched-for houseplants over the last month to advise on which ones to consider when re-vamping a bathroom this autumn that will regulate humidity levels, reduce condensation and prevent mould.<\/p>\n
With an interest spike in this plant between August, and September, Ivy is one of the \u201ceasiest houseplants\u201d to keep and \u201cone of the best for cleansing the air\u201d.<\/p>\n
Rikki said: \u201cThey enjoy warm and humid environments, so they are great for bathrooms.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThey also don\u2019t need too much sunlight and can survive well within the shade, making them ideal for those with windowless bathrooms, or those with smaller windows, unlike many other houseplants.\u00a0<\/p>\n

More info<\/p>\n This evergreen plant not only helps to remove harmful toxins, but it improves humidity by helping to restore moisture to the air naturally too.<\/p>\n Some will require more humidity than others, yet, in general, most fern species make perfect additions to a bathroom or kitchen.\u00a0<\/p>\n Ferns require proper and regular drainage but thrive in humidity, and so Rikki advises to \u201chang ferns within the shower to get daily quench of thirst.\u201d<\/p>\n Robust, low maintenance and another plant known to improve a humid environment is the spider plant.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The spider plant is known to be \u201ceffective in cleaning indoor and contained air\u201d by absorbing chemicals.\u00a0<\/p>\n Its thick roots allow for inconsistent watering, making it a go-to option for those with a busier lifestyle.\u00a0<\/p>\n Rikki advises to \u201cplace spider plants on a windowsill, here they can soak up more natural light and drape beautifully down towards your bath or sink”.<\/p>\n2.
