BENRUS has unveiled the latest addition to its dive watch lineup or rather, through a reissue, has brought new life into a 1960s classic – the Ultra-Deep.

This launch is inspired by the era when scuba diving was rising to prominence, prompting brands like BENRUS to introduce reliable dive watches.

The Ultra-Deep, also known as the “Compressor”, stood out in the 1960s as BENRUS’ most iconic dive watch. This particular design featured a case, aptly named “compressor”, constructed by Ervin Piquerez, S.A. (EPSA), with a unique case that offered enhanced water resistance with depth, pressurizing further as one went deeper, up to a maximum of 600 feet. Unlike contemporary designs, the Ultra-Deep had an internal timing bezel controlled by one of its two crowns, ensuring a sleek look and reducing the risk of inadvertent adjustments underwater.

Keeping in touch with its roots, the reissued Ultra-Deep showcases the beloved cathedral-style hour and minute hands, complemented by a date window enhanced with an internal magnification eye. While the diver does pay homage to the original, it also boasts a variety of modern enhancements. The 36.5mm watch now uses an acrylic crystal to maintain the internal magnification, ensuring it meets the 20ATM rating of its predecessor. One of the most notable differences between the original and this reissue is the use of a contemporary screw-down case as opposed to the EPSA case.

Further updates to enhance its appeal include a screw-down crown, C3 Super-LumiNova hands and dial markers, as well as a Soprod P024 automatic movement. Other design elements include a Jubilee-style stainless steel bracelet and a matching blue nylon NATO dive strap, providing a diversified styling aspect.

The updated classic is available for purchase now via the watchmaker’s official site, for a retail price of $1,095 USD.
