Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore will both be campaigning for Academy Awards for their latest film, but they won’t be competing in the same category.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Natalie, 42, who spoke at a UN summit for gender equality\u00a0Monday amid reported marital woes, will have her name submitted in the Best Actress category for her work in May December, according to Variety.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Julianne, 62, will submit her name in the Best Supporting Actress category for the romantic drama, the outlet also claimed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The story in the Todd Haynes directed project focuses on Natalie’s character, Elizabeth, an actress hired to portray Julianne’s character in an upcoming movie.<\/p>\n
Julianne’s Gracie Atherton-Woo grabbed tabloid headlines some 20 years previously for her relationship with an underaged boy, Joe, played by Charles Melton, who is now her partner.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elizabeth’s research exposes some of the cracks behind the carefully crafted fa\u00e7ade the couple presents to the world as they are about to become empty nesters.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In an interview with Vogue\u00a0before the current actors strike,\u00a0Natalie revealed she was the one who got the ball rolling on the passion project.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I was sent this script for May December\u00a0and I was completely blown away by it.’<\/p>\n
She said the writing was ‘so nuanced, so specific, and the story was so interesting and surprising.’\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘I sent it to Todd Haynes, whom I\u2019ve admired for so long and, luckily, he was interested. It was extraordinary to get to work with him on it.’<\/p>\n
Julianne had worked with Todd before in her Oscar nominated role from 2002’s Far From Heaven.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the storyline at Cannes, the veteran star acknowledged in a press conference,\u00a0‘An age gap is one thing, but a relationship between an adult and a child is a different thing entirely.’<\/p>\n
‘The reason why this movie feels so dangerous watching it is because people don\u2019t know where anyone\u2019s boundaries are. It feels scary.’<\/p>\n

May December received a six minute standing ovation and Cannes and was sold amid heavy bidding to Netflix for $11 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The film is set to open the New York Film Festival later this month.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Julianne earned her Academy Award for her role as a woman suffering with early on-set Alzheimer’s disease in 2015’s Still Alice.<\/p>\n
Natalie won the Oscar for her portrayal of a troubled ballerina in 2010’s Black Swan.<\/p>\n
She is also listed as a producer for May December and if the film wins Best Picture, could result in another Oscar for the versatile producer and director.\u00a0<\/p>\n
May December will debut in theaters November 17 and stream on Netflix beginning December 1.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
