AN ISLAND labelled "the best in the world" is just a four-hour flight away from the UK and has warm weather throughout autumn.

The best of the summer has now left the UK this year, but there are still places nearby where sun, sea and sand can be found in abundance.

One such place is Milos in Greece, which was declared to be the best island on the face of the planet by Travel + Leisure in 2021.

The publication asked its readers to rate island destinations all over the world, as they looked to find the best one.

They said they were looking for "the kind of Instagram-perfect destinations that travellers fantasise about on winter evenings" with "dreamy, sun-drenched landscapes surrounded by the bluest waters".

From their survey, the clear winner was Milos, due to its beaches and for "friendly locals who welcome visitors to explore the quaint villages".

They praised its "extraordinary tavernas, and dozens of picturesque beaches that vary in colour depending on whether they are formed from shells, stones, or sand".

Travel + Leisure aren't the only ones to use superlatives when talking about the island, with Tiktoker Kristian Gaupset (@kristiangaupset) describing his visit as "one of the most amazing days of my life".

In a video he shared, he said the sea at Milos is "the clearest water in the world" and claimed it "literally glows blue".

Locals agreed with him too, with one person commenting: "As a Greek who has visited almost 70% of our islands, Milos by far is my favourite."
