The new £13million attraction opening at a popular UK seaside town next year | The Sun

A BRAND new £13million attraction is set to open at a popular UK seaside resort next year, it has been announced.

Blackpool already has plenty to visit, including Pleasure Beach and Madame Tussauds – however, it will soon have a new place for families to enjoy.

The Showtown Museum promises to celebrate "the seaside, circus, magic, shows, dance and Blackpool’s world-famous illuminations", as well as the people who have helped make the town famous.

It will have six galleries that will showcase those different elements of the town's history.

Visit Lancashire claims that the museum will be both fun and educational for people of all ages.

It reads: "You will be able to see hundreds of exhibits and get involved in lots of fun activities.

"There will also be a learning space for schools and groups. Plus a gallery space for changing exhibitions."

The £13m attraction was initially granted planning permission in 2018, but the Covid pandemic and other construction issues caused setbacks.

Originally it was hoped Showtown would open as long ago as June 2021, but it has since been pushed back on more than one occasion.

Now the museum looks finally set to open to the public on March 15, 2024.

Blackpool was recently named the country's most affordable staycation, due to its cheap accommodation and relatively inexpensive beer and food prices.

Research conducted by finance specialists, RIFT put the seaside town top of the table as the nation’s best staycation destination this year.

Their research took into account a range of factors, including the cost of accommodation and a family day out to a nearby attraction, as well as the price of a pint and a fish and chip supper.

Of all the places RIFT looked at, Blackpool ranked as the cheapest destination for a pint at £3.25.

It was also home to the most affordable fish and chip supper, which came in at less than a tenner (£9.06).

A night in Blackpool isn't expensive either, with guesthouses just 200 yards from the beach available from £21 for two on

Caravan and camping pitches nearby are available for even less, at around £10 per night.
