Sir Richard Branson’s cruise line to build huge new terminal in Miami

Sir Richard Branson’s cruise line Virgin Voyages is already making waves in the cruise industry with the first ships of its new fleet currently under construction.

Now the company is once again upping the ante as it unveils plans to build a new, tropical themed terminal at PortMiami, from which its second ship will sail during winter 2021/2022.

PortMiami will also serve as Scarlet Lady’s main homeport as she sails to the Caribbean throughout 2021 following her inaugural journey to Havana, Cuba, in 2020.

The new 100,000 square foot terminal will be boast a Miami Beach themed, with a rooftop designed to look like a palm tree grove.

The terminal, developed by Miami-based Arquitectonica, will overlook Miami’s spectacular skyline, and will feature a two-story storm-proof lgass facility with heaps of lush landscaping to make for a tropical feel.

It will also include designated areas for VIP drop-offs, ride-sharing and more.

Virgin Voyages hopes to get construction underway next year for completion by November 2021, but the project is currently pending local authorities’ approval as well as a subsequent berthing agreement.

Sir Richard Branson said: "Miami is an incredible city and one of my favorite places to work and play. From our headquarters for Hotels, Voyages and now Trains USA, South Florida has quickly become another home for Virgin brands in the leisure travel sector."

Meanwhile CEO Tom McAlpin added: "South Florida is our home, and with our fleet now growing to four ships, we’re humbled and thankful to soon have a gorgeous new terminal overlooking the Miami skyline, an incredible view that will set the stage for the alluring journey that we will take our sailors on."

Cruise fans won’t have to wait too long before they can start booking on to the cruise holidays the company will be offering, as Branson also revealed that the inaugural season will open for sale on Thursday 14th February 2019 (pre-sale deposit holders will be able to book from the 5th February).
