Once opened, the shelving, which is removable, is designed to be hung from the extended handle of the case, creating an instant wardrobe.

The shelves are different sizes, with the smaller top shelf ideal for toiletries and the bigger middle shelves ideal for bulkier items such as sweaters.

The standard suitcase, which is 21 inches by 13.5 inches by nine inches, can fit between five and seven outfits and meets all of the size restrictions for carry-on luggage for the major airlines. Pictured is the suitcase in non-wardrobe mode, with the shelving removed

In addition, the Carry-on-Closet boasts a USB port and pocket designed for a portable power bank as well as a TSA-approved lock.

The standard suitcase, which is 21 inches by 13.5 inches by nine inches, can fit between five and seven outfits and meets all of the size restrictions for carry-on luggage for the major airlines.

There’s also a slightly larger case that measures 22.5 inches by 14.6 inches by 9.6 inches. This can accommodate six to nine outfits, but Solgaard Design warns it may be too big to take as a carry-on item on some airlines.

Both cases are available on Kickstarter, with the smaller case costing $150 (£117) and the slightly larger case $165 (£129).

The luggage ships in May 2019.
