British Airways is offering Brits the perfect excuse to book a holiday to Croatia next summer as it launches a new route to Split.
The airline revealed that from June 2019 it will be operating a new service direct from London City Airport to the picturesque city, which is known for having served as one of the Game of Thrones filming locations.
The flights will be seasonal, operating three times a week from June through to September.
It will be the first time the airport has been connected to Croatia.
You can already book your place via the British Airways website, with fares starting from £75 for a return journey if you’re going for hand baggage only fares.
It’s not the airline’s first service to Split. In fact, it already offers direct flights from London Heathrow to Split, but the company has said it plans to increase this service from five flights a week to seven a week, next year.
The new service is part of the airline’s ongoing £4.5billion investment over a five year plan, which includes everything from cabin upgrades to taking delivery of 72 new aircraft.
Luke Hayhoe, British Airways’ general manager commercial and customer, said: "With the arrival of our new aircraft next year we have been looking at a number of new route and additional frequency possibilities.
"Split is the second largest city in Croatia and is becoming increasingly popular with customers looking for an alternative holiday destination or who are joining a cruise ship.
"It was a natural addition to our summer leisure schedule.
"This summer British Airways flew to 30 destinations in the UK and Europe from London City Airport as well as the daily service to New York. This is ahead of a big boost in capacity for 2019."
Richard Hill, chief commercial officer at London City Airport, added: "For the first time ever, London City Airport will offer a connection to Croatia, and the increasingly popular town of Split – a fascinating gateway to the idyllic Dalmatian coast.
"This is a stunning holiday destination that demonstrates London City’s increasing offer of leisure destinations for everyone, and British Airways’ commitment to continued growth here.
"We’re thrilled that Split is a new destination in 2019, meaning the airline has its widest range of leisure routes ever, from the Balearics to the Greek islands, providing summer getaway options that our customers will love."
