Restaurants and pubs had to temporarily close during the third lockdown, but this has now changed under Boris Johnson's roadmap.

You can book a table and eat outside at pubs and restaurants, and from May 17, you'll be able to get a table indoors too.

We explain what services McDonald’s is running and its latest opening times:

Is McDonald’s open during lockdown?

McDonald’s is open under the latest coronavirus restrictions.

You can order food by going through a drive-thru or via home delivery through Uber Eats or Just Eat.

You can also get walk-in takeaways and you can dine al fresco at restaurants that have seating outdoors.

But before you make a trip, it’s best to check to see if your local restaurant is open by using the chain’s restaurant locator.

Paul Pomroy, McDonald's boss for UK and Ireland, has apologised to customers who have struggled to get food delivered and warned that orders may take longer than in usual times.

What Covid measures has McDonald’s introduced?

THE fast food chain has introduced a wide range of measures to keep staff and customers safe – these include:

  • Protective screens in its kitchen and service areas
  • Smaller teams in its kitchens to enable social distancing
  • Face coverings and daily temperature checks for all employees
  • Hand and bag sanitising stations and face coverings for its McDelivery partner couriers
  • Contact-free order and payment available via the My McDonald’s App
  • Enhanced cleaning of all surfaces and touchpoints

When does McDonald’s close during lockdown?

McDonald’s opening and closing times may vary from what customers are used to because of Covid-19 restrictions.

Under lockdown rules, pubs and restaurants can serve takeaway food and deliveries until 11pm.

Drive-thrus also can't be open later than 11pm.

It's best to check when your local branch is open using the chain’s restaurant locator.

How do I get McDonald's delivered?

McDonald's works with both Uber Eats and Just Eat for all its delivery orders – but not all restaurants offer both services.

You should also keep in mind that you'll pay a delivery charge on top of your order.

This usually depends on how far away from the restaurant you are.

Enter your postcode on Uber Eats and Just Eat to see if McDonald's delivery is available near you.

McDonald's will now also deliver food to your car so you can skip the drive-thru queue.

You can also use the My McDonald’s app to pre-order your food and pick it up.

The My McDonald’s app can be downloaded via the App Store or Google Play, and it doesn’t cost extra to click and collect.

It's worth getting as you can get great weekly deals. Previous offers have included free hot drinks and 20% off orders.

McDonald’s fans are raving over an ice cream coffee menu hack and it looks perfect for the hotter days ahead.
