1. What is a University Recruitment Officer do?
There are two main roles – either recruiting staff to work at the University as part of the HR department, or recruiting students to enrol as part of the university undergraduate or graduate body.
2. What would I do in the role?
Both have a similar aim, to promote your Uni as the best place to work and study.
While the HR role is more akin to a traditional hiring role in a normal company, the Student Recruitment Officer creates marketing material, events and social media to promote the institution to would-be students and may help award scholarships too.
3. Will I need a degree to apply?
Some senior HR jobs may ask for a degree in a related field but entry level jobs and Student Recruitment Officer positions may accept ideas, enthusiasm and the skillset to do the job before formal qualifications.
4. What are the pay and conditions?
In general, pay at universities is level with the private sector and some benefits such as pensions and holidays are often better.
