This Luxe Coat Is Under $150 at the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale

Any true budget-minded shopper knows that the best time to buy a coat isn’t right before it gets bone-chillingly frigid outside, but rather right now. As our favorite department stores and boutique shops begin to mark down their fall and winter coats, heavy-duty knits and cashmere to make way for the trench coats and floral mididresses of spring, there’s no time quite like the present to add another coat to our wardrobe. Not only will it get plenty of wear in the next few months, but we’ll have a style ready to go for next year (and the year after that) too. Besides, anyone in a temperate or chilly climate knows that we have quite a ways to go before it’s warm enough to go outside without a warm peacoat thrown over our shoulders.

Luckily for Us, we found the perfect coat to wear for winter and beyond — plus it’s on a major sale! The J.Crew Daphne Boiled Wool Topcoat might not necessarily have the cutest name, but we’re not letting that get in our heads! It’s the perfect versatile design our coat rack has been missing and we’re not letting it slip through our fingers while it’s part of such a major markdown.

See it: Check out the J.Crew Daphne Boiled Wool Topcoat for 40 percent off of $228 (now only $137) in over six colors! Not your style? Check out other J.Crew options for sale, plus be sure to look at other coats and more markdowns at the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale!

The J.Crew style is made out of a cozy (and decidedly not itchy) boiled wool. Unlike the traditional go-to wool styles we also love, the boiled wool is designed to be super tightly woven, which makes the coat extra warm without adding any additional bulk to our frames. Also, boiled wool is significantly denser, so it’s able to withstand fraying and shrinking. Good to know, considering we’ve accidentally ruined plenty of adorable wool sweaters and cardigans by throwing them in the wash!

The coat is designed with luxury in mind, starting with where it’s made! The 100 percent wool design is made especially for J.Crew by Manifattura di Carmignano mill in Italy, which is known around the world for rich woolen fabric. To keep the style modern and on-trend, the Daphne is finished with raw edges and large, roomy pockets, perfect for stowing a phone, keys, wallet and for keeping hands toasty warm.

The coat is designed to be minimal and timeless, starting with the single-button closure and the notched lapels that remind Us of menswear suiting. Depending on the height of the wearer, the coat hits at about mid-thigh, though it can be longer on those with a shorter frame. Worried that it’ll be too long? There are petite options available in each color and those are recommended for anyone that stands at 5’4″ or under.

The best part of the J.Crew Daphne? The rainbow of shades it comes in! From neutrals to head-turning brights, there’s a color out there that will suit any wearer and style.

For starters, there’s a classic black shade that will suit just about any style maven. The trendy tortoiseshell-hued buttons look decidedly chic and are the perfect complement to the otherwise simple design. We’re pairing this shade with a cocktail dress and heels for a classic night out look, or we can pair with light-wash denim and a crisp white button-down for a chic way to dress up a Sunday afternoon stroll.

Want to stay in the neutral color family, but not a fan of black? A beautifully textured grey is a great way to incorporate a bit of wow factor into an otherwise basic outfit. The Daphne in the Rock Grey shade is perfect for both work and play, though we’re most excited to wear it with pinstripes and loafers.

We love a great sapphire-hued number, and this beautiful coat comes in no less than two different shades of blue! The Autumn Peri is the exact color of the sky on a crisp fall or spring day, while the Royal Cobalt is a more cool girl-appropriate take on a traditional navy.

We’ve yet to find a red coat we can turn down and this one is no different! The Daphne comes in a brilliant shade of scarlet that’s designed to dress up virtually any outfit. Pair with an all-black ensemble for a look that’s sure to get our outfits snapped up by street style photographers, or go classic with a white tee, jeans and ankle booties. Either way, a red coat is a surefire way to ensure our style is worthy of many double taps.

Finally, our favorite shade — a stunning bubblegum pink — is on sale, too! It has the same tortoiseshell buttons we love and the boiled wool texture looks even more pronounced in this flirty shade. Pair with sneakers and a sweaterdress for a decidedly darling look or wear with navy for a surprising color pairing!

Reviewers dig the coat, too! Some note that it has a bit of stretch, so it’s perfect to wear while out and about (though let’s face it — we plan on wearing it every single day!)
