As firefighters continue to work to contain the Woolsey Fire currently raging in Southern California, the Kardashians, whose homes were threatened by the fire, are outraged after learning the alleged origin, which is still under investigation.
Last night, Kim Kardashian tweeted that she was “shocked & furious to learn smoke from the #WoolseyFire started at former nuclear testing site, Santa Susana Field Lab, & is potentially radioactive.”

The cause of the fire isn’t known yet, but it did break out near the location of a previous partial nuclear meltdown at a former rocket engine test and nuclear research facility called the Santa Susana Field Lab. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health released their findings after testing air samples using radiation detection devices and said there is “no discernible level of radiation in the tested area.”
The California Department of Toxic Substances Control also said, “previously handled radioactive and hazardous materials were not affected by the fire.”
“It’s snowing ash. And everything you’re looking at has been burned.”

However, activists—and Kim and Kourtney Kardashian—want the Field Lab, which is 2o miles away from Kourtney’s home, to be cleaned up and for California Governor Gavin Newsom “to do something” because some of the contaminated buildings are still standing.
Our family lives ONLY 20 miles from a nuclear disaster site, Santa Susana Field Lab, and we didn’t even know it – the #WoolseyFire started there, and smoke could be carrying radioactive chemicals. We need @GavinNewsom to do something – sign the petition. https://t.co/CBfY4gX1BG https://t.co/daZFHZW7xa
Kim and Kourtney currently are asking people to sign a petition that’s framed around a 4-year-old girl who grew up near the lab and now has cancer after allegedly being exposed to contamination from the site.
The Woolsey fire is currently 52 percent contained, but it has burned 98,362 acres and resulted in 3 deaths.
