Leah McSweeney, sister hold online art auction for COVID-19 relief
Leah McSweeney may have been “disgusted” at how Ramona Singer spent her quarantine this spring, but the two “RHONY” co-stars came together for a common cause on Tuesday.
McSweeney, 38, Singer, 64, and Luann de Lesseps attended a rally in Times Square to protest Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s decision to close indoor dining in New York City amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Protestors also demanded a bailout for restaurant owners.
Singer shared photos from the protest on her social media with the caption, “As a New Yorker I am appalled to see what is happening to the restaurant/hospitality industry! How do @nygovcuomo & @nycmayor expect these businesses to survive!!?
“The CDC states indoor restaurant dining only represents 1.43% of covid cases 73% come from household gatherings….and what about subways, buses and planes?”
She continued, “It is my opinion @nygovcuomo wants to bring New York City to its knees economically he wants to destroy it, the reason is because he needs a federal bail out. Prior to Covid New York State was already in serious debt. It is time we stand up and save our small businesses!!”
Singer has owned her fair share of businesses including True Faith Jewelry and Ageless by Ramona, which were both promoted on the show. She also became a restauranteur with her involvement in Tribeca’s AOA Bar & Grill.
She also shared a Change.org petition to demand the impeachment of Mayor Bill de Blasio on Tuesday.
McSweeney captioned similar photos from the protest, “This isn’t about dining out. Open your eyes. This is about hard working people, small business owners and NYC. There is no NYC without restaurants, our sous chefs, bus boys and bartenders, wait staff etc. They need help. 1.4% transmission rate in indoor dining does not warrant plummeting all these people into poverty. Please pay attention!!! These photos say it all. 💔.”
The Married to the Mob founder is very vocal about her political views and has shared videos of the Black Lives Matters protests on social media to educate her fans. She also slammed de Blasio this summer, telling the New York Post, “No one thinks he’s doing a good job, and he really should step down. His legacy will be ruining New York City for a good amount of time. He’s just in over his head.”
More recently, she and her sister, Sarah, held an online art auction to benefit undocumented workers who are out of work due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, de Lesseps, 55, shared photos as well with a simpler caption, “Restaurants are the lifeblood of New York City🙏.”
It is unclear if Bravo cameras were rolling yesterday, but “RHONY” is currently in production for Season 13.
