Meghan Markle has just finished celebrating a milestone birthday after turning 40 on August 4, which was undoubtedly a bash to remember.

Rumoured to have been organised by close friend Oprah Winfrey's go-to party planner, the former royal would've had an incredible day surrounded by her family and close friends at their Hollywood mansion.

Although their royal relatives here in the UK weren't able to attend, they shared their best wishes and kind messages for Meghan's birthday on social media.

Meghan and husband Prince Harry, 36, share two children together; Archie, two, and Lillibet, three months, and this marked her first birthday as a mum-of-two.

Whilst the kids are a bit young to purchase their own gifts, we're sure Harry has made up for it with plenty of his own gifts.

Despite the pair stepping down as senior member of the Royal Family in early 2020, their extravagant lifestyle hasn't been compromised, with the pair enjoying a slightly more private family life over in California.

Over the course of their relationship, Harry has been known for splashing out on an impressive selection of gifts for his wife, from expensive trips away to more sentimental pieces.

Here are some of the most memorable presents Harry has gifted Meghan.

Cartier jewellery and artwork

Early on in their relationship, Harry reportedly loved showering Meghan with romantic presents.

Whilst in the wooing phase, the Prince forked out thousands for a Cartier 'Love Bracelet', which was worn out by Meghan for a number of public engagements.

An avid fan of art, Harry knew Meghan would appreciate his lavish purchase of a Van Donna painting.

Sources revealed he spend thousands on a piece titled 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love'.

Harry reportedly showered his actress girlfriend with romantic gifts during the early days of their relationship.

A vintage ring, owned by Diana

As Meghan and Harry drove to the evening celebrations on their wedding day, the new Duchess showed off her latest gift from her hubby.

She wore the late princess' stunning Emerald cut aquamarine ring on her right hand.

It was believed to be a wedding gift from Harry, and it complimented her evening wedding dress perfectly.

The stunning blue ring was a firm favourite of the Princess of Wales, who wore it to a number of royal engagements.

Diana was pictured donning the stunning piece of jewellery in 1996 at a high profile party.

A H&M necklace which caused a royal row

One necklace which really caused a rift amongst Harry's relatives was his present from jewellery brand Maya Brenner.

The gold necklace read the letters H and M, which stood for Harry and Meghan.

Albeit early on in their relationship at the time, Meghan clearly loved the piece and was spotted wearing it during days out in London.

However, the $300 14-carat gold chain ended up causing a row with royal aides and let to an uncomfortable call from royal aides.

In their biography Finding Freedom, authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claim an aide advised Meghan not to wear this kind of jewellery, saying it would only encourage the press.

They write: "She was advised that wearing such a necklace only served to encourage the photographers to keep pursuing such images — and new headlines."

They claim that Meghan was upset by the call, saying that she "said very little" while on the phone", instead "choosing instead to simply listen to the counsel".

The book continued: "But after hanging up, she felt frustrated and emotional.

"While she knew the aide had good intentions, the surreal experience of having someone from her boyfriend's office tell her what kind of jewellery to wear or not to smile at a photographer was too much."

Meghan reportedly discussed the incident with a friend, saying: "I can't win. They make out like I'm to blame for these pictures, that it looks like I'm encouraging them, that me even acknowledging the cameras may not be sending the right message.

"I don't know what to say. It was only yesterday that people online were saying I look miserable in pictures, because I was trying to just ignore the photographer."

Engagement and eternity rings

Perhaps Harry's most documented gift is the engagement ring he placed on her finger when he popped the question back in 2017.

He got down on one knee while they were cooking dinner at their Kensington Palace cottage, presenting a ring with three massive diamonds.

Two of the diamonds were from his mum Princess Diana 's collection and one was from Botswana, where he does a lot of charity work.

The jewels originally sat on a plain gold band, but Meghan later changed this for a glitzier, much thinner micropavé band.

On their first wedding anniversary in May 2019, Harry gave Meghan another ring – an eternity band.

The stunning piece is covered in diamonds, sitting next to her engagement and wedding rings.

A brand new Mini Cooper

According to the Daily Star, Harry treated Meghan to a new car for her 36th birthday.

He reportedly splashed out £31,000 for a Mini Cooper, inspired by the 2003 film The Italian Job.

A source told the newspaper: "Harry is convinced this is a great gift for Meg. She’ll be able to nip around London yet stay fairly anonymous.

"Harry says he will have to teach her how to use a gearstick. He has his advanced recon driving skills from his time in the Army so he could teach her a thing or two.

"But whether his abilities are to Italian Job standards remains to be seen."
