‘Outlander’ heads for Native American lands…in Scotland

PERTHSHIRE, Scotland – For three seasons, Starz’s period hit “Outlander” has brought American viewers a windswept vision of 18th-century Scotland. Season 4 (Sunday, 8 EST/PST) turns the tables: the travelers have arrived in 18th-century America.

“We are seeing America in its infancy,” says Sam Heughan, who plays the Highlander Jamie Fraser, “and the people that settled there. Especially in this time, with all that’s going on, it’s fascinating to see what America was born of.”

As last season ended, Jamie and his time-traveling lover Claire (Catriona Balfe) washed up on the shores of Georgia. They’d been heading back to Scotland from Jamaica, where they rescued Jamie’s nephew Young Ian (John Bell), before a shipwreck. Season 4 picks up with the pair in North Carolina, seeing every side of the New World in the years before the Revolution.
