While working with one of the fashion industry's leading designers for over a year on the show-stopping look, the actress had a lot of say in the design decision – but there was one feature that was kept a secret by her mum, Claudia Heffner Peltz.
Vogue has revealed how the mother of the bride added an evil eye as a talisman along with a sweet message that was sewn into the skirt lengths of the gown using blue thread, acting as Nicola's 'something blue'.
The design of the dress was changed during the process, as it transformed it from a highly intricate look into a sleek and simple piece.
“We didn’t have to overly detail the dress to accomplish the magnitude of it, so we ended up eliminating the embroidery.” Nicola's stylist Leslie Fremar told Vogue.
Instead, they added French lace on handmade gloves and an exquisite train that sits over the gown and decorates it like “a work of art.”

After two trips to Valentino's studio in Rome and a further two fitting in the US, the head seamstresses for the brand were present on the big day to make sure that every detail was perfect for the ceremony.
“It was the ultimate couture experience,” says Fremar of cherry-picking elements from various sketches, fabrics and embroideries to create Nicola’s dream wedding dress.
Along with the key hole cut out in the back, the pristine white floral arrangements and her Claudia Schiffer ’90s-inspired beauty helped the 27 year old gave a lesson in how to look like a modern day princess.
It wasn't only Nicola's outfit which withheld a special touch as Nicola had a bespoke label sewn into Brooklyn's suit by designer brand Dior.
“Brooklyn loves labels,” explained Nicola. “Two years ago for Christmas, I made a whole suitcase full of personalised ones for him.”
Whilst the day might have seemed a whirlwind for the two lovebirds, the outfits were impeccable.
