After a seemingly never-ending Mercury Retrograde period, the Messenger Planet is finally about to turn Direct on November 3 – the day of the eagerly-anticipated US election. Retrograde motion in astrology is the illusionary effect where the planet appears to travel backwards through the cosmos with respect to the zodiac.
But once the body resumes its natural flow, Mercury is said to move Direct again.
Mercury rules Gemini, which means that there will be added mishaps that are unforeseen
And although many may not see the connection, astrologers have warned people should prepare for Mercury’s transit to sow chaos and confusion this Tuesday.
Some may be more than surprised to learn how Mercury last stationed Direct on Election Day in 2000.
That particular horse race saw George W. Bush controversially take office despite the Democratic Party’s Al Gore winning the popular vote.
Some political observers have drawn comparisons between that contentious election and 2020’s incarnation, following concerns over mail-in ballot delays and potential recounts.
Astrologer Lisa Stardust believes Mercury’s transit may help exaggerate any uncertainty and disarray taking place this year.
She said: “The mail-in ballots will take a long time to be counted, a lot of voters won’t get to the polls in fear of getting coronavirus (COVID-19), and we can expect that both the Democratic and Republican parties will demand a recount no matter who the winner is, due to Mercury’s direct station in the middle of Election Day.”
The Moon, known in astrological circles to offer direction, is in star sign Gemini on election day.
Mz Stardust said: “Mercury rules Gemini, which means that there will be added mishaps that are unforeseen.
”This adds a double whammy of unpredictability to the outcome of the election, especially because the Gemini Moon will be riding along the North Node of Destiny and squaring off with elusive Neptune.”
Astrologer Narayana Montufar also reveals the errant Messenger planet is involved in a Square with Saturn in the star sign Capricorn as US voters take to the polls.
Squares are aspects thought to be able to reveal tensions, obstacles and challenges standing in people’s way.

She said: “This will highlight the political themes that have shaped society and politics throughout the year.
“And while Mercury is in Libra, the sign of justice, the hard hand of Saturn is stronger because Saturn is the natural ruler of Capricorn, which will make it hard for all of us to connect, think, and even communicate with authority figures.”
And this cosmic combination may also affect government officials and everyday managers at work.
The astrologer adds: ”It is not the best week to have an important meeting, ask for a raise, or even have a delicate conversation with your boss.”
Ms Stardust suggests Mr Biden and Mr Trump both have Mercurial energies in the career sector of their birth charts.
And she suspects this Mercury transition may affect both Presidential candidates.
She said: “Biden’s Midheaven, the top point in the chart that denotes public standing and affairs, as well as representing one’s career, is ruled by Mercury.
“Trump, who’s a Gemini Sun, has a Mercurial flavour and Sun intercepted in his Midheaven as well.”
As a result, the astrologer consequently predicts the US election results will almost-certainly eventually arrive on November 6, when Mercury creates another Square with ringed jewel Saturn.
