McDonald’s will launch the first ever katsu curry chicken nuggets next week.

Available in UK stores from December 30, the fast food giant will make the Japanese inspired dish for just six weeks.

The food is made from 100 per cent chicken breast meat – the same as their standard nuggets – in a crispy Katsu Curry panko breadcrumb coating, served with the chains’s classic sweet curry dip.

McDonald’s say they are the tastiest way to wave goodbye to 2020 and start the new year as you mean to go on. 

The prices start from just £3.59 for a box of six, while a box of nine will set you back £4.09 and 12-piece box costs £5.99.

Katsu is usually made of fried chicken in panko breadcrumbs with a curry sauce.

In the UK, it’s best known as a dish served at Pan Asian chain Wagamamas, with fans delighting when the chain released their recipe during the first lockdown in April.

It comes as the chain also announced customers will be able to pick up free carrots or ‘reindeer treats’ on Christmas Eve.

The carrot bags will be available to collect from all UK restaurants via takeaway and Drive Thru – with no purchase necessary.

McDonald’s – which remains open for takeaway across the country – have delighted fans throughout the year with various limited edition menu items.

In September, the chain expanded their Quarter Pounder with Cheese range with three variants of the classic fan favouritw – a Spicy Quarter Pounder with Cheese, a Quarter Pounder Deluxe as well as the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

The chain has also been praised for their charitable efforts this year, in October they announced they were set to deliver a million meals for children following a campaign from footballer Marcus Rashford.

UK and Ireland CEO Paul Pomroy said at the time: ‘As a business we are committed to supporting and serving the communities in which we operate.

‘In these challenging times, we know it’s more important than ever to support those most in need.

‘When we temporarily closed our restaurants in March, our people, franchisees and suppliers rallied to provide surplus food and support to food banks and charities.

‘We were pleased that we were able to donate surplus food through FareShare and other organisations earlier this year, and we admire the fantastic work that FareShare continues to do to support families facing very tough situations.

‘I am pleased to support the distribution of one million meals to the families most in need this Autumn, and I wish to thank and congratulate FareShare for everything they’re doing.’
