Luke Perry Dead at 52, Hollywood Reacts with Social Media Tributes (Updating)

The actor is remembered by his Hollywood friends and fans after his passing.

Hollywood is in mourning after the shocking death of Luke Perry.

The "Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Riverdale" star passed away on Monday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank, days after suffering a "massive" stroke at his Los Angeles home, reports TMZ. A rep for the actor confirmed his death.

The actor is survived by his two children, Jack, 21, and Sophie, 18, his kids with ex-wife, Rachel Minnie Sharp.

Perry’s career began in the late ’80s, with appearances on "Another World" and in the Twisted Sister music video for "Be Chrool to Your Scuel," before his big break as Dylan McKay on "90210." He appeared on 199 of the show’s 293 episodes in a role that quickly made him a teen heartthrob of the ’90s. He would also star in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" film, and on shows like "Oz" and "John In Cincinnati" before being cast as Archie’s father, Fred, on "Riverdale."

As news of his passing spread, his former costars and Hollywood fans all shared their condolences online. Ian Ziering shared a photo of the two of them together, writing, "Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we’ve shared over the last thirty years. May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here for those you leave behind. God please give him a seat close to to you, he deserves it."

Molly Ringwald, who played his estranged wife on "Riverdale, also wrote, "My heart is broken. I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family." The show’s creator, Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, also tweeted: "So heartbroken about Luke. He was a father, brother, friend, and mentor. Each night before he had to shoot a scene, he’d call me and we’d talk about…everything. I will miss those calls. And my heart goes out to all his family and friends."

"We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry," read a statement from the "Riverdale" showrunners and crew. "A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time."

We lost an original today. A legend. He paved the way for us. Although we didn't work much together, he always greeted me with a smile, had a joke ready, and a story to tell. Rest in peace, Luke. Rest easy.

My heart hurts ? One of my first jobs was a guest appearance on 90210. My scenes were with Luke. I had a crush on him for so long and getting to work with him was a dream come true. I just remember him being a super humble and really nice guy.

Rest Luke — the way you always treated me (and anyone I ever introduced you to, no matter how much they screamed and squealed with excitement) — in peace. #RIPLukePerry Cherish every moment. ??

So sad. Luke Perry #beverlyhills90210 #riverdale I met him when I was 19 and when we re-met in our 40’s both promoting our #CW roles and shows. I didn’t think he would remember our crazy NYC week after his astronomic success, but he did. A nineties icon will be missed. Love and thoughts to his family during this difficult time. #riplukeperry John Barrowman MBE
