Christmas Bank Holiday 2022 bin collection dates: Will my rubbish be collected? | The Sun

CHRISTMAS always results in loads of rubbish – from wrapping paper, to food scraps and festive trees.

But during the Christmas bank holiday are the rubbish collectors working to take away all your trash? Here we take a look at what to expect.

When are the bin collection dates over the Christmas bank holiday?

There is no bin collection on Christmas Day or Boxing Day as rubbish collectors take a well-earned break to enjoy the festivities.

Councils will provide information on the alternative dates your rubbish will be collected – so keep an eye out for a tag on your bin.

You can also find out your rearranged bin collection date, by checking with your local council by entering your postcode on the website.

Councils may shift your collection by one or two days.

For example in the Royal Borough of Greenwich in London, if your bin is usually collected on Mondays, then your bin will be emptied on Wednesday, December 28.

Tuesday 27 collection moves to Thursday 29; Wednesday 28 becomes Friday 30, and those expecting bins to be emptied on Thursday 29 will now have theirs taken on Saturday, December 31, with collectors working an extra day.

However if your bin is usually collected on Fridays, then the December 30 collection is moved to Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Different councils will have different ways of working so make sure to check with yours if you don't want to miss the disposal of your waste.

When will my bin collection resume to normal days?

This depends on your local council.

As both Christmas Day and New Year's Day fall on a Sunday, extra bank holidays have been added on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, and Monday, January 2, 2023.

No collections are likely to take place on bank holiday dates, with staff usually working on a Saturday to make up for missed days.

Once the workers have caught up the dates will return to normal.
