Britney Spears’ Dad "Running And Hiding" From Deposition Over Her Fortune

Britney Spears wants the court to order her father, Jamie Spears, to sit for a deposition regarding his conduct as her conservator. Lawyers for the pop star filed a motion to compel Mr. Spears to comply, in which they accuse him of “running and hiding.”

On Wednesday, lawyers for the pop star filed a 21-page motion urging the court to compel Mr. Spears to be deposed, arguing that he “still has not appeared” for the deposition since his first notice to do so on October 20, 2021.

As per court documents obtained by PEOPLE, the singer’s estranged father has also failed to comply with any of the previous dates—of which there were at least eight—offered for the deposition.

“Mr. Spears can run, but he cannot forever hide from his legal and fiduciary obligations,” Britney’s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, boldly claims in the court filings, adding: “After using his daughter’s money for more than 13 years to fund his legal fees and expenses, for the first time, Mr. Spears will now have to pay his own legal fees.”

In the dramatic documents, Rosengart accuses Mr. Spears of “stonewalling and obstruction” over the last six months. The singer’s father is accused of “dodging his deposition,” which would certainly include questions regarding his handling of the Toxic singer’s finances while overseeing her conservatorship for 13 years.

Brit’s lawyer also accuses Jamie of purposefully “harassing and bullying” her.

Even worse, the documents accuse Mr. Spears of not handing over “communications concerning the shocking electronic surveillance apparatus set up to spy on his daughter.”

Brit’s dad allegedly bugged her bedroom with the help of Black Box Security to record her private conversations—something he allegedly hid from the Los Angeles Superior Court and paid for with her money!

The feisty filing alleges that Mr. Spears managed a “corrupted and conflicted conservatorship,” which he used to enrich himself. Brit’s lawyers go on to say her father made $6.3 million from his daughter “while paying his associates tens of millions more.”

Rosengart concluded the filing by calling on Mr. Spears and his counsel to “do what is right.”

Britney’s father established the conservatorship in 2008 to control her personal, medical, and financial affairs. Many have called the arrangement abusive, including Britney herself.
