Bake Off star John Whaite has announced that he’ll no longer be “hiding behind” his signature beard as he debuts a brave new look on social media.
On his Instagram stories, John shared that his sister often mocked his bare face and said that he looked like a “glow worm” without his beard.
However, John decided to take the plunge anyway and shave it off despite his apprehensions about the look.
He then shared a photoshopped pic of his face superimposed onto a toy glow worm and the toy's accompanying box with his three hundred thousand followers, thanking a fan called Derek for the funny snap.
The 33 year old has been making some serious changes to his appearance lately after he debuted a full body fitness transformation at the end of 2021 ahead of his appearance on Strictly.
During his stint on the show, John made history when he paired up with male pro dancer Johannes Radebe, and the pair became the show’s first ever male-male dancing duo.
John rose to fame back in 2012 when he competed in the third series of The Great British Bake Off and has since established himself as a popular TV personality and chef.
On his social media, where he boasts hundreds of thousands of followers, he regularly shares recipes and cooking tips.
Recently, John has shared a recipe for a Miso and Biscoff tart and another for delicious salted chocolate cookies.
The star also regularly appears on hit Channel 4 cooking show Packed Lunch, where he shares his best family recipes.
John, who recently slammed footballer David Beckham for taking money from Qatar during the world cup, also regularly posts updates on his life online and has opened up about his mental health and eating disorder troubles.
At the end of January 2023, the 33 year old shared in a post that he successfully completed dry January and that it helped him to avoid having any bulimic episodes all month.
He finished the post by urging fans to “try” and stop drinking if they’ve ever been sober curious, and that the experience helped him in “holding myself accountable.”
John also recently shared a message to trolls that harass him via his Instagram, in which he told them that their words “undress” them and reveal “how damn ugly” they are, in a bold attempt to push back against online bullying.
