Supermarket recalls are not often issued but should be taken seriously by consumers. Aldi has issued a warning on tealights.

Solar Tealights six pack

Tealights are a popular option to light up a home both inside and in the garden.

Those who shopped at Aldi to kit out their homes are urged to be careful.

The notices state: “We are recalling this product because our supplier has identified that a small number of batteries may overheat.

“We request that customers do not use the products and return it to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given.”

The discount supermarket chain also offered an apology regarding the recall.

It read: “We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.”

Shoppers were also asked to visit the website or contact customer services for more information.

In the UK, customer services can be found at customers.services.aldi.co.uk/contact.

Those in Ireland get in touch at customer.service.aldi.ie/contact.

Supermarkets will issue recalls when a problem is spotted with an item.
