A beloved grandma was thrown an incredible princess-themed 90th birthday party, ushering in her ninth decade with a right royal knees-up.
The cheerful grandmother, known as ‘G-Ma’ to family, looked like a queen as she donned a huge pink tutu, plastic crown and a beaming smile for the pictures.
G-Ma’s family organised a throne, tutu, cake, balloons, biscuits in the shape of her face, crown and a custom t-shirt that read ‘It took me 90 years to look this good!’.
It was G-Ma’s grandaughter Stephanie Perkins, 33, who had the idea for the shoot and she took two-and-a-half weeks to put it all together for April 24.
Stephanie said: ‘My grandma is very special to me and during the pandemic and quarantine, we did not get to see much of her.
‘I knew her 90th birthday was coming and we wanted to do something special just for her.
‘My family had been vaccinated, so we felt like it would be safe to celebrate together.
‘I had seen people on the internet do photoshoots for first birthdays, and even 30th birthdays so I thought why not do one for her 90th with the whole tutu and crown outfit.
‘She was very happy to pose and do all the things we asked her. She was smiling and laughing the whole time. We all had a lot of fun celebrating G-Ma.’
Photographer Melissa Denny, 37, who went to high school with Stephanie was the talented snapper booked for the celebration in Reynolda Gardens in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA.
She said: ‘We had the best time, talking, laughing, dancing – G-Ma was a great sport and down for anything.
‘She has a sweet, happy spirit about her and she gets up out of a chair faster than I can!
‘Her family clearly adores her, they were all so happy and laughing with her.
“When they asked if I would be interested in doing the photos, I was MORE than willing to do it.
‘What an amazing opportunity to spend time with a sweet, 90-year-old, wonderful lady, making memories and having fun celebrating her milestone birthday.’
Nonagenarian G-Ma was joined by her daughter Debra, her son-in-law and and her two granddaughters at the shoot, with everyone partying with her and getting involved in some of the snaps.
Teacher Stephanie said: ‘Our whole family was there because she is the matriarch of our family.
‘She is so important and special to each of us and we all wanted to be there to see her shine on her special day.’
Stephanie’s mother, and G-Ma’s daughter, Debra said: ‘Before we met Melissa at Reynolda Gardens, a group of prom-goers pulled up and wanted to wish her a happy birthday. She was very grateful for their kindness.
‘She knew it was happening, but I don’t think she truly knew what was going to happen when we got there.’
After the gorgeous shoot, the celebrations were not over for the lovely G-Ma who had a drive-thru party the next day where her other friends could come and wish her happy birthday safely.
