Missing restaurants already? Try these takeaways to get you through lockdown

While the first national lockdown may have been all about baking sourdough bread and making our own pasta, now the second one has rolled around, we’ve lost a bit of momentum.

That doesn’t mean we have to stick to bland food options, mind you.

Instead, consider the wealth of food delivery options available to have a delicious dinner with minimal effort.

With England’s restaurants closing their doors until 2 December, here are some of the best restaurants that will deliver straight to your door.

Club Mexicana, available nationwide

Add a bit of spice to your life with Club Mexicana’s 100 per cent vegan, street-inspired Mexican cuisine.

Try their Al Pastor self-assembly taco kits, which will change monthly – November’s involves their handmade shawarma-style seitan, infused with ancho, arbol and guajillo chillies, and coated in an adobo marinade.

It comes with hand-made corn tortillas and toppings, including caramelised pinapple, salsa verde, onion and coriander. Kit serves four, £20.

Galvin At Home, available Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, England and Wales only

Chris and Jeff Galvin, founders of Michelin-star-winning Galvin La Chapelle and Galvin At Windows have launched their new service, Galvin At Home.

They’re offering a three-course, weekly-changing menu with delicious dishes such as supreme of Landaise chicken with truffle, Highland beef sirloin, and tarte tatin, plus a vegetarian option, too.

Designed for two to share, the meal boxes start at £39.

Passo, nationwide

Shoreditch restaurant Passo is offering DIY sourdough pizza and fresh pasta kits for delivery, including a special collaboration with Nancy Silverton, the LA restaurateur and Chef’s Table star.

Her pizza with panna, mozzarella, fennel sausage, and spring and red onion can be cooked in the oven or in a frying pan, while other options include the seasonal pumpkin, goat’s cheese, chilli and rocket.

Pasta-wise, expect classic arrabbiata, with chillis and tomato, or amatriciana, with pork cheek and garlic.

From £10.50, serves two.

Rib-Eye Box, Hawksmoor At Home, available Thursdays and Fridays, order by Monday 12pm, nationwide

Hawksmoor At Home has just launched its limited-edition Rib-Eye Box, bursting with everything you need for a delicious dinner for two.

You’ll get two rib-eye steaks, along with bone marrow gravy, creamed spinach, their ultimate oven chips and legendary sticky toffee pudding.

You can also add a couple of pre-mixed Old Fashioneds and a bottle of Portuguese red.

Serves two, from £85 without alcohol (£125 with).

Levan, available within four miles of Peckham, Wednesdays – Saturdays

Popular Peckham restaurant Levan introduces Levan To Go, a complete, three-course, ‘a la carte’ at home experience.

The food focuses on seasonal, comforting, family-style sharing dishes, with both a vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu.

November’s meaty main is beef bourguignon, while veggies will tuck into a potato, mushroom and vacherin pie.

Extras are available to order too, from burrata with butternut squash to chicken liver parfait. From £59, serves two.
