You’ve seen the feta pasta dish everywhere. You’ve (probably) tried it. And now you’re ready to experiment with other food items for a hassle-free meal.
So, welcome to the breakfast edition of the trend: baked oats.
Over on TikTok, people are getting innovative with their morning meals, adding regular or blended oats to banana, chocolate, peanut butter and whatever else takes their fancy.
Once they’ve mashed all their ingredients together, they just bung the mix in the oven for half an hour and voila – a lovely oat cake is ready to be consumed.
The trend is gaining huge momentum on the video-sharing app, where there are over 284million views on #BakedOats.
So anyone hoping to get ahead on the tread before it spreads to Insta and other social media, you might want to grab some oats.
You know, for a healthy version of a cake in the morning.
You can see why the dish is so popular – it doesn’t require much effort and still has the health benefits of eating oats in the morning.
The high levels of protein and fibre in oats plus the addition of healthy nut butters and stewed fruit make the dish all the more appealing.
While you can add protein powder, seeds and nuts for health, TikTokkers are going for more sweet and chocolatey options.
The most popular version of the recipe is baked brownie oats. This requires banana, rolled oats, almond milk, cocoa powder, baking powder, vanilla essence, maple syrup, strawberries and chocolate.
A content creator called Kayleigh shared her recipe, which included topping it off with a piece of chocolate and strawberries.
- One mashed banana
- Half a cup of rolled oats
- Half a cup of milk of choice
- One tablespoon of cacao powder
- Quarter of a teaspoon of baking powder
- Half a teaspoon of vanilla essence
- One teaspoon of maple syrup
- Strawberries to serve
- Piece of chocolate to serve.
- Get a small baking dash, mash some banana into it. Add the rolled oats and milk of choice
- Add the cacao powder and one teaspoon of baking powder, pouring in half a teaspoon of vanilla essence
- Then finish off with some maple syrup, mixing it altogether
- Leave in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 28-30 minutes
- Serve with a chocolate on top (which will melt due to the heat of the oats) and strawberries.
Kayleigh said of her creation: ‘These were literal fudge, you have to try!’
Meanwhile, others made strawberry cheesecake varieties that look like cakes.
One person added sprinkles and icing to hers which were reminiscent of the primary school desserts we’re all so fond of.
Probably not a good idea for breakfast though.
