- A U.K.-based organization called Veganuary is urging people to go vegan for the month of January again.
- They are airing a commercial in the U.K. and the U.S. to promote their campaign.
- The commercial shows people dodging when hunks of meat are thrown at them.
The U.K. organization Veganuary has launched its first TV ad encouraging people in the UK and U.S. to go vegan for the month of January.
In the ad, people in a focus group are given the choice between “meat or veg,” and if they choose meat, someone off camera throws raw meat at them. Instead of thinking fast, every member of the group cringes and jumps out of the way. When they choose “veg,” a vegetable is thrown their way, which they happily catch.

Veganuary is a nonprofit encouraging people to go vegan for the month of January (in hopes participants will enjoy the vegan lifestyle enough to continue on throughout the rest of the year). Since 2014, the organization has signed up 500,000 participants in 178 countries, and partnered with hundreds of businesses to launch new vegan products and meals. By signing the pledge, participants agree to go vegan for 31 days.
If you decide to go vegan for the month of January, pantry essentials like chia seeds, chickpeas, and canned tomato products could make the transition easier.
You also might want to invest in a nice blender (which, maybe you received during the holidays??) for making coconut or almond milk smoothies.
Though it might seem tough at first, there’s never been a better time to go vegan; these days, fast food spots like Wendy’s, Burger King, and Dunkin Donuts all offer vegan options, and specifically vegan restaurants like By Chloe and Veggie Grill are opening locations across the country.
In the grocery store, it’s easier now to find egg substitutes, aquafaba whipped cream, and dairy-free ice cream than it was twenty years ago.
