A new Asian supermarket has just landed in London – with a sake bar

London is blessed with some brilliant Asian supermarkets – there’s Oseyo in Camden, various Hoo Hing stores (in Leyton and on the North Circular) Hing Yip in Holloway and China Town’s Loon Fung.

But a new one has just landed in Aldgate called Tian Tian Market and it’s just the lockdown news we need.

A branch of Tian Tian already exists in South Quay – but this sister site in East London has seriously upped its game.

Tian Tian is known for stocking a wide variety of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Vietnamese food – so it’s the place to go to load up on every variety of dim sum, noodle and ramen.

The new store, located in at 18 Piazza Walk, includes an enormous seafood and meat section and is well-stocked with bubble tea, hot food, Japanese patisserie and Little Moons mochi ice cream – something that’s virtually impossible to track down in the capital, due to its popularity on TikTok.

It all sounds pretty delightful – and the good news is that it’s open for business now.

Another key selling point of this new superstore is its sake bar, which is set to open in May – but is available for collection-only now. The spot will be a place where people can sit and have a drink pre or post shopping (we’re counting down the days).

Elsewhere in the world of food – which let’s face it, is the thing that’s bringing us the most joy in lockdown – Flounders Fish and Chips in Greater Manchester has unveiled a new deep-fried treat… the battered chip butty.

Coming in at £2, the savoury item is made up of fried bread with chips inside and there’s the option to have it with English curry sauce, Chinese curry sauce, gravy or mushy peas.
