YOUR wedding is one of the most important days of your life – so it goes without saying that all brides want to look and feel their best as they walk down the aisle.
And while some might feel most confident when they have a professional makeup artist on stand-by, one recent newlywed decided to opt out of this and go bare-faced for her special day.
There's just one small problem – her husband isn't too happy with how their wedding photos turned out.
Sharing his dilemma on Reddit's Am I The A****** forum, the man explained how they've been together for five years and insists his wife is "beautiful" even though she doesn't wear make-up.
He wrote: "There have been times and occasions where it was expected/appropriate for her to wear makeup and she refused."
Ahead of their big day, both his mum and hers tried to convince the bride to wear some kind of makeup for the wedding.
However, the bride said she's never been interested in cosmetics and argued she "wasn’t going to start on a day that she was supposed to enjoy".
The anonymous man then insisted the photos came out terribly because his bride wasn't fully made up.
He continued: "[Our mothers] tried to tell her the pictures wouldn’t come out as good, and honestly they were right – she’s got huge bags under her eyes and I think the photos would’ve been nicer if she’d just put on concealer or something."
Since the wedding, the groom hasn't mentioned his wife's aversion to make-up – but it recently came up at a family dinner.
Our mothers tried to tell her the pictures wouldn’t come out as good, and honestly they were right – she’s got huge bags under her eyes and I think the photos would’ve been nicer if she’d just put on concealer or something
Describing how his 11-year-old niece has recently started getting interested in beauty products, he wrote: "She asked my wife at dinner if she ever wore makeup and my wife said 'no, I don’t bother with it.'"
When the pre-teen pushed her further, the newlywed said it was "waste of money" and that she'd feel like she was "lying to herself because she likes the face she has."
"My sister got mad and said that she wore makeup a lot of the time and didn’t feel like she was lying to herself and that it actually made her feel good," he said. "My wife responded 'oh yeah. I bet you could quit anytime you want.'
"And then kinda laughed, which set my sister off and let’s just say the rest of the evening was not enjoyable."
Instead of dropping the subject, the man brought it up again when they got home and asked her to "please be less militant about makeup."
He added: "I said it wouldn’t kill her to wear it and I admit I did accuse her of being overbearing about her stance.
"She basically said that she never started conversations about makeup but that it’s always other people bugging her to wear it.
"I said 'maybe they have a point and you’re being hardline over something really stupid and you need to get over yourself' and she got upset and called me a d**k for thinking she needed makeup and then we had to go cool down separately."
Needless to say, the post sparked fierce debate in the comments.
One wrote: "Did you wear concealer under your eyes at your wedding? I’m just saying, you would have looked a lot better in the pictures if you did…"
Another added: "Basically telling someone to wear make up is like saying they need something to cover up their imperfections (at least that's how I think it). Not something you would want to tell your partner."
"Your niece asked your wife's perspective. That is how your wife feels about makeup and it isn't wrong just because sister feels differently," a third wrote. "She was asked her opinion and she gave it, and then sister completely jumped all over her opinion and your wife cut that s**t down… because she and everyone else knows… you weren't going to come to her defence."
