Meghan Markle news: Duchess 'broke down in tears' as she said 'emotional' goodbye to staff while quitting Royal Family

MEGHAN Markle broke down in TEARS as she gave an emotional goodbye to her most trusted staff, a Royal insider claims.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had to say farewell to some of their most trusted and loyal members of staff prior to their last Royal event in March 2020.

“I can’t believe this”, Meghan said, as she began to cry.

These words were said as the Duchess got ready for the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

The details were revealed by Royal authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Duran in their new book “Finding Freedom, what happened on the couple’s last day as official royals”

The Authors added: "She embraced some of the dedicated team members whose tireless efforts – to promote the couple's work, launch landmark projects, and deal with the near-daily crisis brought on by the tabloids – had come to an abrupt end.

Will & Charles anticipating ‘controversial’ Sussexes' return

It has been claimed by a royal expert that Prince William and Prince Charles will put on “brave faces” upon the return of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for the upcoming Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The brothers are understood to have not seen each other since July last year, when they unveiled a statue of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Camilla Tominey, associate editor at The Daily Telegraph, has claimed Charles and William will be putting on “brave faces” when reunited with the Sussexes next month.

Speaking during the Royal Insight on Thursday, she said: “Prince Charles — the only emotions that have been used by him or his people about how he has reacted to things like the Oprah interview was sadness rather than anger.

“So dad is sad. I think brother is angry and sad. But as was the case with Prince Philip’s funeral, brave faces will be put on proceedings.

“The most interesting addition to the proceedings of course is Meghan because previously we’ve seen Harry by himself in the UK and now the duchess is going to come back into the fold.

“Obviously, the body language and the reading of it is going to be quite fascinating.”

Eight places to receive city status to mark Platinum Jubilee

The capital of the Falkland Islands is among eight places to win coveted city status as part of celebrations for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Stanley in the Falklands Islands is the first Overseas Territory to win the competition for city status, while Douglas on the Crown Dependency of the Isle of Man has also claimed the civic honour.

The Cabinet Office said that Bangor in Northern Ireland, along with Colchester, Doncaster and Milton Keynes in England, plus Dunfermline in Scotland and Wrexham in Wales have also won the honour.

They are some of the places that "make Britain great", according Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Steve Barclay.

He said: "What was clear to me during the process of assessing each application was the pride that people felt for their communities, local cultural heritage and the Royal Family.

"As we celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's colossal contribution to society, I am thrilled that we are able to recognise some of the many places that make Britain great.

"It is also incredibly reflective of Her Majesty's global outlook and years of international service that applicants from the Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies have been selected as winners for the first time."

Harry & Meghan hoping for ‘publicity’ by bringing Archie & Lilibet to Jubilee

A royal journalist has claimed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could gain favourable publicity by attending Platinum Jubilee celebrations with Archie and Lilibet.

Journalist Camilla Tominey said that Harry and Meghan would benefit from keeping up their Royal titles if they came in attendance, as well as it being helpful for them to stay in contact with the Queen.

Ms Tominey told the Telegraph: “Well what to Harry and Meghan derive from not coming?

“Not much because they have to keep up their Royal ties because it’s obviously helpful for them to be in contact with The Queen.

“And for the public to know that not just in the UK but also in America, we don’t know for instance what role Netflix had in filming them making that visit to Windsor Castle some weeks ago.

“If they didn’t come however it would really represent that kind of total separation of powers.

“And they don’t really want that, neither side does because The Queen has always insisted that they remain much-loved members of the family.

“Regardless of what may have been said and done on Oprah or elsewhere.”

Charles hopes Britain is 'welcoming' to Ukrainian refugees

The Prince of Wales said last month he hopes Britain is welcoming to Ukrainians, in an "emotional" meeting with families who have fled Vladimir Putin's invasion.

Charles made the comments on April 28 during a visit to the World Jewish Relief (WJR) charity in north London, which has sent food, money and medicine to the war-torn country.

Charles, a patron of the group since 2015, has made a financial contribution to its efforts although the sum has not been made public.

Charles and Camilla met members of the Ukrainian community at a cathedral in Ottawa during their tour of Canada earlier this week, with the Duchess of Cornwall telling a family who fled from Lutsk and were forced to leave their father there to fight: "We are so behind you."

'Royal Family providing accommodation to Ukrainian refugees'

The royal family are reportedly providing accommodation to Ukrainian families who have been forced to flee their homeland.

Members of the royals have vowed to "do their bit" and are housing refugees but the family has "no wish" for publicity, according to the Daily Express.

Some 53,800 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in the UK under visa schemes, including the Homes for Ukraine programme, which amounts to just over half the number of visas granted.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman told the Express: "We are assisting in a number of ways but will not be commenting further."

It is not known which royals are housing refugees or where the accommodation is being provided, with the palace contacted for further information.

The palace was used to house royal refugees during the Second World War, with Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands as well as Norway's King Haalon and his son Prince Olaf staying there after fleeing the Nazis in 1940.

Meghan & Harry ‘trying to control’ Jubilee narrative

A royal expert has claimed that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are “trying to control” the narrative surrounding their Jubilee balcony snub.

The Telegraph’s Associate Editor Camilla Tominey has claimed the timing of the Sussex’s announcement was “more than a coincidence”.

She said: “The timing of the Sussexes saying that they would come to the Platinum Jubilee celebrations has been interesting because what happened in the first instance is that Buckingham Palace released a statement saying that the only people would end up on the balcony were those who will still working members of the Royal Family notably, not Harry and Meghan.

“We then got a statement issued by their people from LA saying that they are going to come and it seemed as if the timing was more than coincidence.

“This idea that initially the Buckingham Palace are trying to control the narrative then the Sussexes are trying to control it.”

Ian Lloyd author of ‘The Queen: 70 Chapters in the Life of Elizabeth II’ said: “I just can’t see it happening, particularly with William.

“There was all the stuff about Kate and Meghan crying at the wedding in the Oprah Winfrey interview.

“I think they shot themselves in the foot with William and Kate, I don’t think they will get anywhere near them.”

The royal insider told US Weekly: “[She] is still adjusting to her routine and charging up her batteries even now.

“The other factor here is that she wanted to be as close to full strength as possible for the Jubilee celebrations, which she’s been looking forward to immensely.

“By not [overexerting] herself it’s giving her more energy to participate in as many of the events as possible.”

Queen's former aide: Harry & Meg's new TV show 'smacks of DESPERATION'

Plans for Harry and Meghan to let cameras into their home for a 'docuseries' have been branded 'desperate' by The Queen's former aid.

Dickie Arbiter, who was press spokesman to both the Queen and Prince Charles, told Palace Confidential that the move appears to contradict the royal couple's wish for privacy.

"It smacks of desperation," he said.

"It's a bit rich, two people who left the UK, walked out of the Royal Family, because they wanted privacy, they've done nothing else but put themselves up front and a week doesn't go by when there isn't some sort of statement coming out of their PR people."

The Daily Mail's Diary Editor Richard Eden also added: "The Kardashians do a reality series, the Sussexes do a docu-series. For any good fly-on-the-wall documentary, you need some tension, you need drama, otherwise it's just boring.

"Netflix really do want bang for their buck," he told the programme.

"What we're thinking now, will they be bringing Netflix with them for the Jubilee celebrations?"

Harry & Meghan warned against ‘overshadowing’ Queen at Jubilee

A royal reporter has warned Prince Harry and Meghan Markle must not "overshadow our 96-year-old monarch" during her Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Camilla Tominey, associate editor at The Daily Telegraph, claimed members of the royal family risk failing to “ingratiate themselves” if they “overshadow” the Queen.

Ms Tominey said: “I think the main priority for all of the members of the Royal family, as it always has been, is going to be the Queen.

“Making sure that she is not overshadowed.

“Because actually, regardless of who’s in camp Sussex or Cambridge or no camp at all, nobody is going to ingratiate themselves with the public, both in the UK or overseas, if they overshadow our 96-year-old monarch on the most momentous and historic weekend of her reign.”

Philip’s fury at Sussexes over Megxit demands

The Sussexes choices and demands around Megxit led Prince Philip to exclaim, “What the hell are they playing at?”, a royal author has claimed.

Royal expert and author, Andrew Morton, has said that Prince Phillip was not pleased when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed that they would be stepping back from royal duties.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Mr Morton claimed: “In 2019, Harry told the Queen that he and Meghan wanted to step back as senior royals, raise funds privately and yet still serve the monarchy — albeit in a limited capacity.

“The Queen’s initial reaction was that it was almost impossible to be half in and half out of the Royal Family; it was akin to being ‘slightly’ pregnant.

“Later, Prince Philip’s indignant response to the couple’s declaration of independence was: ‘What the hell are they playing at?’”
