Man plans on becoming an Uber Eats driver to get PAID to pick up his own McDonald’s & people are hailing him a genius

A BLOKE is toying with the idea of becoming an Uber Eats driver – so he can get paid to eat McDonald’s.

The UK lockdown has seen McDonald’s change from a dine-in service to drive-thru and McDelivery only, meaning those without cars or living too far away from restaurants haven’t been able to get their fix.

And anyone living close enough to a fast food joint has had a delivery charge added on to their food, with Uber Eats charging £3.99 – more than many items on the menu.

Tired of having to pay out every time he wanted a Big Mac a bloke, called Kyle, unveiled plans to sign up to become an Uber Eats driver and collect his own meal.

He shared a clip to TikTok revealing his grand scheme, saying: “In the UK, McDonald’s are only delivery or drive-thru at the moment, like it says here.

“But as you can see this one doesn’t have a Drive-thru. And I don’t want to pay £3.99 delivery.

“So I’ve got an idea. If you sign up to be an Uber Eats driver but only collect your own order Uber Eats will literally pay you to collect your own food.”

His plan has racked up hundreds of thousands of views online, as people branded him a ‘genius’.

One person said: “AMAZING idea. How many times does it actually work?"

Another wrote: “Genius!"

While a third commented: “Sign me up."

But a few Uber Drivers themselves stepped forward, and pointed out it’s not as simple as Kyle makes out.

They claimed the lead time to become a driver, insurance, shift slots and the fact orders are randomised means Kyle’s plan may be more hassle than it’s worth.

One said: “As someone who drives for Just Eat & Uber Eats, you won't get your own order, good in theory but not in reality."

Another added: “Yeah I work for Uber it doesn't quite work like that. Although sometimes you're lucky to get your own order other times not."

While this person pointed out: “As a driver myself, I have tried this but only got other people's orders."

But McDonald’s fans can rejoice as the Chief Executive Officer for McDonald's, Paul Pomroy, announced people will be able to go inside to pick-up their orders from February 22.
