MANY people love nothing more than unwinding over the weekend by ordering a takeaway and relaxing on the sofa. 

But with people looking after their pennies more than ever before, foodies have turned to making their own versions of their favourite dishes. 


Now, one savvy mum who has become a big fan of the ‘fakeaway’ in recent months, has shared how she creates her very own Chinese dish for her and her family to enjoy.

Social media star Duchess of Thrift says her chicken noodle Chinese fakeaway tastes just as good as the real deal – but saves her a fortune.

That’s because all the ingredients come to just £1.22 a head, and she praises her £1 secret ingredient for elevating the dish.

The mum, who can be found on TikTok at @duchessofthrift, explained to her followers: “Right, this is a family favourite – it’s Chinese Singapore noodles.”

She then showed how others can make it too, as she went through what to put in their shopping bag and how to do it.

Duchess of Thrift continued: “So you need two chicken breasts, broccoli, spring onions, pepper, an onion, half a pack of mangetout, some rice noodles, some soy sauce – or chuck some chillies in.”

She then shared that her favourite ingredient is Mayflower curry sauce, which can be bought in several shops for just £1. 

Revealing how the dish comes together, the social media user went on to say: “Chop the veg and put it in the frying pan. Soften that for about 4-5 minutes.

“You need to soak the rice noodles in some hot water, what I do is break them up first because it’s easier to fold them into the food.

“I’ll leave them in the hot water for about 7 minutes while I fry off the veg and the chicken.”

The cooking fan then makes sure the chicken and veg is cooked, before adding 3 tablespoons of Mayflower curry sauce.

She drains the noodles and adds them to the pan, folding them in with a fork and adding a dash of water and soy sauce to moisten and add flavour. 

After they were cooked, she said: “And there they are – honestly they taste absolutely banging!”
