From a potato pedicure to rinsing your hair with vinegar, these are the cheap home beauty tricks you NEED to know

From fixing dodgy fake tan with baking soda to keeping the colour in your hair with vinegar, these tips are cheap and quick.

With the help of Hairtrade, here are the best beauty hacks for glowing skin and luscious locks….

1) Use a potato to pedicure

Getting your tootsies ready for a holiday can be cumbersome – but there's really no need to splash out on an expensive pedicure.

For a cheap home-made treatment, try exfoliating your skin with a potato.

Cut the veg in half and coat it in seat salt before buffing it along your feet for instant exfoliation.

2) Fix dodgy fake tan with baking soda

Slapping on some fake tan can be a quick way to cover up those anaemic-looking winter legs.

But applying the false glow ends in disaster all too often.

If you’ve been left with bright orange hands or streaky knees, exfoliate the area with a loofah that’s been dipped in warm water and baking soda to get rid of patchiness.

3) Prevent your hair dye from fading with vinegar

Sun, salt water and harsh weather conditions can strip back coloured hair.

To lock in the dye, use apple cider vinegar to keep your tresses luscious and bright.

Sparingly run the liquid through your hair and leave in for 10 minutes before rinsing out.

4) Make coconut oil your new best friend

There’s no need to splash out expensive beauty items as coconut oil is a natural wonder product.

The multi-purpose ingredient can be used as a moisturiser, conditioner, serum and cuticle oil.

Slather it over the skin to keep yourself looking hydrated or run it through the hair to fight the dry frizz.

5) Keep your nail polishes in the fridge

The temperature can wreak havoc on your favourite beauty products.

Nail polish is likely to turn thick and gloopy if it is left in the heat, so keeping it in a cool place can extend its shelf life.

Try popping the varnish in the fridge to keep it smooth and easy to apply – the cooled product will also feel glorious on your nails.

6) Repair dry hair with an avocado mask

A homemade hair mask can resurrect your locks from their dry and strand-like state.

Crush a whole avocado and mix with a tablespoon of lemon juice and a cup of olive oil.

Mix them all together and apply to your barnet, leaving it 20 minutes before rinsing.

7) Banish greasy hair with baby powder

Splashing the cash on an expensive dry shampoo isn’t necessary if you have some baby powder to hand.

If your hair is looking a little greasy, tap a little powder into the roots and thoroughly rub it through.

The common household item works to soak up any excess moisture, giving your locks a fresher-looking appearance.

8) Use deodorant to sweat-proof the whole body

It’s not just the under-arm area that can benefit from a spot of deodorant.

Apply your favourite sweat-reducing product on areas that are most prone to getting clammy, including the back of the neck.

Spraying some deodorant onto your feet before putting on summer sandals or pumps will also prevent them from stinking out.

9) Shave less regularly with a home remedy

To get enviably smooth shaves without constantly reaching for the razor, mix-up this quick remedy which slows hair growth.

You’ll have to shave less often if you apply a concoction of sugar, lemon and water to the skin.
